The Best Way to Chose Your Allergy Relief

Posted by Charlie Prost on December 13th, 2010

People that suffer from allergies always get to pay more attention to what they eat what they use for cleaning or even stay away from flowers. Since modern technology has evolved a lot, allergy is not that much a problem these days.

However, choosing the best allergy relief is not so easy. Whether the it comes in a spray, nose drops or pills, it has to be easy to be carried around and very efficient. In other terms, it has to work in just 10 minutes after taking. An allergy treatment that is very efficient can’t be only made from natural ingredients. This is why in choosing the best one must consider the other substances used to treat his allergy.

In some cases, the allergy has no particular treatment, so the patient has to constantly be alert and protect his body from harmful factors.

Since the allergy can be caused by high levels of toxic substances in the body, such as resulted from a bad diet, a good relief can refer to a detoxification diet and life style. In such cases, it is significantly reduced and can even be cured.

The important thing is though for the person to maintain the same healthy life style or the allergy might return. Allergy relief treatments can sometimes have a curative effect too, but only if the manifested allergy is mild and kept under observation. Any allergy manifest is a way of the body to show that something is not right. All this signals should not be first blocked with an allergy treatment, but should be investigated by a doctor. Many people just presume that they have allergy to something and buy an allergy relief even if they don’t need it. The most dangerous thing about this practice is the fact that the body can develop immunity to the medicine.

If the allergy was in its early stages of development, and a particular allergy treatment could have stopped it, the patient will no longer recover because its body had already acknowledged the substance and thus, the allergy relief will lose its effect. As so, the best way to get any type of allergy symptom treated is by checking in with a doctor first. This is the only person that can prescribe an allergy relief or an allergy treatment for you. Even in cases of mild allergy, the allergy treatment you are willing to take has to be first looked up by a doctor.

Comparing medical files and medical problems that you had in the past can be a very important factor in choosing the correct allergy treatment. Obviously, you cannot do this, so it’s best to let the doctor decide. The medicine market is packed will all sorts of allergy relief drugs. In such a variety, only authorized personnel can tell you what’s best for your body. Thus an allergy treatment has to be chosen by a doctor, according to your special needs and of course taking into consideration other medicine that you take.

Smart Nutrition Tips

Posted by Charlie Prost on December 12th, 2010

Congratulations. You have started your fitness program. It’s new, challenging, and exciting. You feel like the decision is a step in the right direction. Here are a few smart nutrition tips to help guide the eating process in your fitness program.

  • Drink Water. Drinking water can never be overstated. Water assists in the removing of waste products from the kidneys. It also plays a role in burning fat. Use water as a food suppressant strategy before meals. If you drink a glass of water 30 minutes before your meal, you may eat less because water makes you feel full. Water can be abused. Make sure you drink sensibly. Try taking a water bottle with you and sipping on it throughout the day. Shoot for a goal of drinking half your body weight in ounces as a guideline.
  • Eat 4-5 small meals. Eating 4-5 meals a day gives your body a few advantages. Spreading those meals out over a 2.5 – 3 hour period provides nourishment to your body over short scheduled time frames. Eating along this type of schedule increases your metabolism as it causes your digestive system to work to digest food intake. Eating 4-5 small meals is particularly beneficial for ensuring that your blood sugar is in balance. Not eating for long periods of time causes the body to reach for its protein stores as opposed to its fat stores to feed upon. This greatly hinders the weight loss and the process of building muscle.
  • Eat healthy fats. Eating healthy fats such as flax seed oil, extra virgin olive oil, and walnut oil, provide you with omega-3 fatty acid. Omega-3 is known for its ability to reduce the risk of coronary heart disease, inflammation, and depression. Adding 1-2 servings of salmon, mackerel, or few eggs to your diet can provide you with this valuable unsaturated fatty acid.
  • Eat 1-2 fruits daily Fruits play a vital role in our diets. Fruits have fiber. The benefits associated with are many. Fiber helps us to regulate blood sugar and our waste products. It is also been effective with cholesterol and triglycerides that can lead to heart disease. There are more benefits, but these 3 alone highlight the value of adding fiber to your diet.
  • Drink 1-2 shakes While the preferred method of ingesting calories is to have “real food”, the reality is that some situations are not conducive to sitting at a table and eating a regular meal. One effective solution to this dilemma is to use 1-2 meal replacement shakes. This method provides you with a few advantages. The first advantage is convenience. The shakes come in packets or in a container where calorie and nutrients are already prefigured in a scoop serving. Second, it takes away the need to sit down and have a formal meal. While it may be less appealing than preparing a meal, it is an effective substitute in curbing hunger.Starting a new fitness regimen doesn’t have to be difficult. Incorporating these smart nutrition tips can provide you with a valuable consumption guideline to complement your overall fitness objectives.

Bicycling has forever been considered as a superior exercise form. It gives you a workout by your wants, and carries you where you wish: the wood trails, the community park, or just about the block. As such, you get to enjoy the new sight as you cycle by. But when you want exercise yet is not able to leave home for whatever grounds, there is always the stationary bike. The exercise bike would give you as effective a workout as a regular bike, and as for the novel views, there is always the teevee or DVD player. The question now is which is the best alternative: an erect or a lounging bike.

How they compare
Apart from having only one wheel, an upright stationary exercise bike is formed similar to a regular bike. The rider sits erect as on a regular bicycle saddle, holding onto the handlebar, leaning a little forward. In contrast, with a reclining bike, the rider sits on a more comfortable, bigger and normally bucket-shaped seat situated after the wheel, while sprawled back. Here the seating pose and level usually are modifiable to match the rider’s bodily dimensions.

Concerning the effects
When driving in a regular bike and sitting on the saddle, the rider’s pose is a spot bent as the handlebar is forward. Hence the vertebrae is curved while its position is unusual, and the torso’s weight is set on the buttocks. Also, if he should arise to pedal better, the torso’s weight gets placed on the knee joints, adding stress and at times, pain.

These atypical positions are not taken up in exercising on a recumbent exercise bike. In pedaling, the rider employs just the muscles of his legs to exercise on the bike, and the trunk is supported by the reclining backrest and wide seat. This posture is apt for people with back difficulties, knee injuries, and obese persons just initiating their exercise program.

Which muscles get strengthened
While the upright and recumbent biking systems burn off calories and develop muscles, they differ a little in both issues. In the standard and upright exercise bike, the rider builds up usually only the quadriceps or the muscles in front of the upper legs, and the calves, those back of the lower legs, that he typically utilize to work the pedals.

Meanwhile, riding the recumbent exercise bike develops the same muscles as those improved by the upright bike, but also the hamstrings (back of the thighs), the stomach muscles if the position is fine-tuned accordingly, and the muscles in the buttocks.

The two methods of fixed exercise bikes vary only in minute ways, but they vary. Thus if you are planning to acquire one you could discover it is difficult to form a conclusion. So it is wise and prudent to check each form in a gym ahead of buying either, only to know which is more apt. But do not be surprised if you find you like the recumbent bike better. As many others did.

More than 28 million Americans suffer from migraines today and, until recently, there has been no really effective treatment for the intense pain which can strike at any time with these extremely debilitating headaches.

Today however we have a class of drugs known as triptans which can be very effective for many sufferers. Triptans are chemically very similar to a natural neurotransmitter produced in the body which is known as serotonin and which it is now believed plays a key role in many headaches, including migraines.

Triptans are designed to sit on the very same receptors where serotonin would normally be found but are also designed to act slightly differently to normal serotonin and to alleviate the symptoms of a headache.

Like most drugs of course their effect varies from one individual to the next but they are generally effective and are particularly so in people who lack skin sensitivity. This said, they can also be useful for people who do experience skin sensitivity during an attack but, in this case, they need to be taken as soon as an attack starts.

Triptans were first introduced in the 1990s under a variety of different names such as sumatriptan but have now been replaced by a second generation of triptans, such as zolmitriptan and rizatriptan, which are much more effective than the original drugs.

Most importantly this second generation of triptans can stop a migraine in its tracks before it evolves into an intensely painful and throbbing headache and do not need to be taken at the onset of symptoms. They also tend to work for a much longer period of time, which is important for those sufferers whose migraines can go on for a considerable length of time. Triptans are also very helpful in relieving some of the symptom which typically accompany migraine headaches such as nausea and vomiting.

One other very important factor with many of the modern triptans is that they now come in a variety of forms including a wafer which simply dissolves on the tongue and as a nasal spray. In both cases this means that the drug can be absorbed very quickly into the bloodstream and work much faster than conventional pills.

How To Get Rid Of Boils

Posted by Charlie Prost on December 12th, 2010

First let’s understand what exactly is a boil?

Pimple and a burn may look alike but in reality, they are extremely different things. The boil is actually a mean form of pimple that transpires deeply in the skin and it can spread and cause more problems.

It is also called an Abscess. It is that ugly thing that starts as a red and painful thing but after the passage of time if gets filled with pus and hurts even more. Sometimes it bursts and depletes on its own, but sometimes surgery is the only option. Bacteria are they key factors that make it even worse. Sometimes that one lump gets surrounded by many similar lumps which eventually join up to form a big gross lump which only surgery can cure.

Boils are the worst form of bad acne. One type of boils called Cystic acne causes more damage to the skin tissues than the acne, like Acne Vulgaris itself does.

How are boils caused?

Various types of boils are mentioned in MedicineNet.com. Some of them are mentioned here:

  • Hidradenitis suppurativa: These Boils take place in armpits or in the groin area. The inflammation of sweat glands causes the growth of abscesses. Antibiotics cannot cure this condition. Therefore surgical removal of sweat glands is necessary to keep the skin from further inflammation.
  • Pilonidal cyst: These are caused in the crease of one’s buttocks. They are caused due to long sitting sessions and are firm yet painful nodules. The common Boils producing reasons are:
  1. Infection caused in the Cuts or scratches
  2. Hair that did not grow.
  3. Unfamiliar harmful substance that is stuck in the skin.
  4. Blocked sweat glands.
  5. Diseases similar to cat scratch fever.
  6. Strain.
  7. Perniciousness.
  8. Allergies.
  9. Imbalance in Thyroid.

Skin Infections and Diabetic Skin Boils

You do not have to be unhealthy to end up with burns and carbuncles. The following factors add a lot to the number of risks:

  • Weak immune system makes the skin vulnerable for bacteria to attack and create boils. People who have diabetes need to be very careful about dry skin and infections. There are two main germs that cause skin infection. One is this bacterium called Staphylococcus aureus (staph) and other is a fungus called Candida albicans. They cause boils in the skin of diabetic people.
  • Tight collar causes skin irritation and cuts. Contagious bacteria enter the body through the cuts. To defend the body, the white blood cells gather at the site that causes the formation of pus.
  • Random skin problem also make the skin defenseless against boils. Acne and pimples are most common among them.
  • Presence of hormones like Corticosteroids and prednisone increase the weakness of the immune system.

Boils Treatment

Trying to popping or squeezing the boils is highly discouraged as it can cause the infection to get worse.

Heating pads or similar things can help in healing of the boil and ease of pain. But if the boil is still there then see a physician immediately.

Oil from an Australian tee tree is a good antibacterial agent and kills germs. You can use it directly on the inflamed skin. Just put about 3 to 4 coats of the oil per day and continue the use from next two weeks.

Soaked leaves from goldenseal, burdock and Echinacea produce a tea which clears up the skin infection.

Sound Machine

Posted by Charlie Prost on December 12th, 2010

There are many components involved in creating a good night’s sleep. Avoidance of caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, and vigorous exercise before bedtime is important. Sticking to a regular bedtime schedule, and making sure that your bedroom is dark, quiet, and cool can make a big difference in your quality of sleep. Quieting your mind using relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, yoga, or meditation before you go to bed can also help. Every person is different, and although it is very common to experience trouble sleeping from time to time, continued sleeping difficulties need to be discussed with your doctor. You may have a sleep problem that needs diagnosis and treatment.

There are a lot of factors you can control for enhancing your sleep quality. One you may not have thought about controlling is noise. You can’t control barking dogs, traffic sounds, noisy neighbors that play their TV too loud or argue, or even your playful children trying to be quiet while you attempt to get some extra sleep. The good news is that you don’t have to control them. If noise is the main problem disrupting your good night’s sleep, a sound machine could be the answer.

What is a sound machine? Sound machines work by masking annoying background sounds with a soothing sound, so that you can relax and sleep. There are a lot of different types of sound machines on the market. The most basic type, which generally works quite well for most people, is a white noise machine. White noise is a combination of all of the different frequencies of sound, so it masks noise by making it difficult for your brain to decipher one noise out of all the others. What does white noise sound like? It’s the soothing sound of rushing air. A good example of a white noise machine is the Sleepmate Sound Conditioner 980A. This machine has a high and low setting along with a volume adjustment. It’s small, and light weight. Just plug it in and it’s ready to go.

Other types of sound machines are available that include other sound options besides white noise, such as rain, ocean waves, or waterfalls. Some people find these sounds more relaxing than white noise. Other people say it just makes them need to go to the bathroom. Eliminating annoying noise is entirely possible by using a sound machine. Try out a sound machine, and you’ll be sleeping better in no time!

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow

Posted by Charlie Prost on December 12th, 2010

One of the most trusted ways of retaining your crowning glory well into your sunset days is to ensure that you’re eating what’s appropriate for your hair growth and that it’s getting delivered straight to your hair roots!

Sophia Loren once confessed to eating pasta “by the ton.” Yet, her glowing back name for something to die for!

The lesson in this is that when it comes to what is good for your hair, we are generally clueless. This article will bust those myths and drive home some home truths! Food for your hair You may be spending a fortune on shampoos and conditioners, but do you know that a much better way to ensure good health for your hair could be simply by eating — and not applying good food to your hair follicles. Not only would the absorption rate be faster, the results would be much better too!

For instance Iron deficiencies are a known cause for thinning hair and a lack of essential fats can cause your hair to become dry. People on low fat or no fat diets are at risk of consuming a lack of essential fats found in oily fish nuts and seeds. Iron-rich food are leafy green vegetables, chicken and turkey, eggs, dried apricots and wholegrains. Likewise, good sources of essential fatty acids on a daily basis. This can include a handful of nuts and seeds, (walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds). In addition, oily fish such as salmon, mackerel, herring and sardines two to three times a week can do wonders for your hair.

Dehydration can affect hair health; therefore drinking still water can help your body’s elimination processes which if sluggish can lead to limp, dull or oily hair.

Just cut out the well-known culprits – sugar, alcohol and caffeine — from your diet.

Instead, substitute these with some of the foods mentioned above and you can have your full crop of hair well beyond your fifties or sixties. Food fixes for hair problems Good food does not just give you healthy hair, it can also fix some problems mentioned below:

  • DANDRUFF: It indicates over consumption of refined sugars that can completely throw the body’s elimination system out of gear. It also makes the scalp flaky that may eventually begin to come off in dry flakes, which is dandruff.

The solution: Cut out sugary snacks, avoid hidden sugar in processed food. Instead eat salads, steamed vegetables and wholegrains.

  • DRY HAIR: You may have run short of folic acid, which helps build red blood cells and aids circulation to the scalp. The solution: Eat plenty of leafy green vegetables, chick peas, liver and brewer’s yeast. LIMP HAIR: Not enough protein in your diet, leaving hair brittle, porous and dull.

The solution: Switch to a balanced supply of protein- based foods, such as eggs, low-fat dairy products, meat and fish.

  • EARLY GREYING: Lack of key amino acids that are the building blocks of protein. Also indicates deficiencies of calcium, phosphorus, potassium and magnesium.

The solution: Consume foods containing Vitamin D, such as milk. Fish oil gives calcium and phosphorus. Potassium is be found in bananas, potatoes, raisins and avocados. Magnesium can be derived from tofu, wholewheat grains, nuts and beans.

  • BRITTLE HAIR: Lack of Vitamin C for the hair shaft.

The solution: Consume lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, especially citrus fruits, such as oranges, and strawberries. Brussels sprouts are also good.

Herbal Remedies for Genital Warts

Posted by Charlie Prost on December 12th, 2010

A lot of herbal plants are used and tested to cure genital warts. Natural remedies are also cheaper compared to commercial ones. Having this kind of disease is not an easy and getting those ugly lesions is not something to be proud of. It is the most commonly transmitted HPV virus all over the world.

There are herbs and natural oils that are effective for treating this kind of disease. One of the most easily found herb is green tea. It has antiviral properties making it more effective to treat this illness. It can be applied over the genital wart in a form of tea bag. It is suggested to find us the type with green tea oil. It is found to be highly effective and eliminates the disease.

A banana peel patch is also believed to eliminate this disease. The peel is applied overnight over the genital warts and used for a few weeks until the wart falls off. It is believed that the vitamin properties in the peel are the reason it is effective. It has antiviral properties.

Other remedies include using garlic, papaya, lemon peel, vinegar, castor oil and aloe vera. The papaya contains enzyme that is known to break down dead skin cells. The chemicals found in lemon peel are similar to the banana peel. They are both known to dissolve the wart. The vitamin content of the lemon also helps because it has anti-viral properties.

Castor oil is also known to remove warts. Using them may take a longer time to remove the art but it gives out better result. The castor oil is applied over the wart and covered with bandages or some use garlic and tape them over the wart to prevent rubbing. Take note that this method may also cause pain so be very careful in using them.

All these natural remedies are found anywhere. It will help remove the lesions but then still there is no guarantee the wart will not come back. Give a thought about a doctor’s visit. If any remedies do not work for you then you can look into the methods done by medical doctors.

3 Steps to Lower Your Cholesterol

Posted by Charlie Prost on December 12th, 2010

I’ve heard a few people lately talking about their cholesterol levels, and they’ve got me a little concerned. When discussing their high levels, such as 220mg/dl, they brush it off as being “normal for me” because their It has has always been high. Unfortunately “normal for me” is not generally accepted as healthy. In fact the Framingham Heart Study showed that heart attacks did not happen at levels above 150mg/dl. That sounds like a much better barometer for health to me and clearly, a level nearly 50% above this level is not something to be nonchalant about.

Another issue with cholesterol levels is that a quick search on the internet of “average cholesterol level” will yield results that show 200mg/dl is the average. Average, in this case, is cause for concern. If your level is above 150mg/dl what are some things you can do to bring it down to a healthy level?

  • Eat less or no meat/dairy: According to GoVeg.com the cholesterol level of the average American vegetarian is 161mg/dl, while the average American vegan’s cholesterol level is 133mg/dl.
  • Exercise:Dr. Dean Ornish’s program for stopping and reversing heart disease includes a minimum of 30min of walking a day, 5 days a week. If you are thinking that your schedule is too busy for 30min a day, you should start thinking about what your schedule is going to look like if you have to start seeing doctors regularly or if you end up in the hospital with a heart attack or stroke.
  • Relax: According to a study published in Health Psychology by the American Psychological Association, the greater the reaction people had to stress during this test, the higher the levels were at the time of follow up, 3yrs later. Try reading or listening to How to Stop Worrying and Start Living by Dale Carnegie, this is a great book that has helped a number of people, including myself, reduce the stresses of every day life. Many people also recommend meditation to reduce stress and your 30min walk could also prove beneficial. Use it to “decompress” or “wind down” after a long day, or to help you prepare for your day before work.

If you don’t already know your cholesterol level, talk to your doctor and get it tested. It’s a simple blood test and worth a check. If your cholesterol level is above 150mg/dl, try the recommendations from above, or seek out a nutritionist or dietitian for additional help.
