In the United States alone, 440,000 people die as a result of smoking cigarettes. This number continues to grow every year as additional individuals continue to smoke and avoid quitting.

For those that think this is a simple death, they are in for a rude awakening. Smokers face painful cancers and heart disease that finally consumes them. This makes it painfully obvious that smoking kills. To avoid becoming a statistic of smoking, you must take action and begin the process of quitting. While it might not be easy to do at first, since it is an addiction, you owe it to yourself to give it an honest shot and make it happen.

In this article, we’ll explore some of the ways that you can quit smoking.

We should begin with the ever-popular nicotine gum. This is a gum that contains a specific amount of nicotine that you chew several times a day. It is designed to help you curb the cravings you have as you quit and allows you to slowly cut back on the amount you consume each week. This gum comes in a number of different flavors and brands and has been shown to be somewhat effective in the process of quitting.

Another popular choice many people turn to is the patch. When an individual chooses to use the patch for the quitting process, they place a clear film on their left arm. Over the course of the day, a small amount of nicotine is then released into the body and this is designed to help the individual quit smoking. Just like the gum you can find, these patches come in different nicotine strengths as well.

Cold turkey is one way that people quickly find is an ineffective method. While there are certainly some people that have the will power to go about doing this form, it tends to be dangerous and most people end up going back to their nicotine source. While many people will suggest this method, it might be better if you stick with some of the more traditional methods that tend to be easier on your body and begin to work out the nicotine addiction on a more gradual basis.

The other option that you might choose to use during this process is a pill from your doctor. There are a number of prescriptions that are available to the patient and depending on your medical history and what your doctor feels is best for you, one pill might work better than the next. When you do take these pills, make sure that you keep in constant contact with your doctor and report any changes that might occur. These pills tend to be very effective and work in a short period of time.

Overall, there are a number of options you have available to you to quit smoking. Keep in mind that smoking kills 440,000.

You should begin the process of quitting now, don’t wait until a new year begins or another special event rolls around. The sooner you begin the quitting process, the sooner you can work towards the healing process that quitting had.

You are worth it and there is value to your life, take action now and quit the smoking today. You don’t want to be the next victim that smoking kills.

How do you know which stop smoking aids to use if you are ready to quit and need some help? This is certainly a hard choice since there are so many products available that tell you they are the best. They cannot all be great or there would not be as many smokers that are looking for ways to quit.

So, what is the method to use for finding the best stop smoking aids? This is going to depend on the person who has made up their mind to quit. There are several products that are just intended to help with the initial withdrawal symptoms. This can include many emotions such as grouchiness, depression, being tired and not being able to sleep. The desire to eat more is another side effect and many people fear they will gain an extreme amount of weight if they try to stop cigarettes.

If you are really serious about quitting and want to get started, you may want to try a few of the natural aids. There are some that mimic the effects of smoking.

The nicotine patch works well for many and is easy to use, however it must be worn again and again each week to get the full benefits.

There are also herbal teas and other plants that people have used in their quest to quit the habit.

Lobelia is a plant that is used for this purpose. The main thing to remember when using any of these aids is they are intended to help you stop. You do not want to trade one habit for another and continue to take them forever. Visit your local health food store for more information on this approach.

This is why people would rather not choose nicotine gum, patches or nasal spray. Stopping does not mean trading one method for another. Those who have had the best success with kicking the problem for good have been people who have made up their mind that they are going to succeed. They have gotten rid of their tobacco, told themselves that they are finished with them for good and never smoked another cigarette.

In theory, the best stop smoking aids that you will find are will power and desire. This is the key to quitting for good. It may help if you educate yourself on the effects of nicotine – not only on yourself, but those around you – and see what type of problems this can cause. Look at those around you, your children or grandchildren, whom you are forcing to breathe the harmful smoke and really think about why you are doing this.

Education can go hand-in-hand with your will power and desire to stop polluting the air that everyone around you breathes.

The best stop smoking aids may not be the ones you can buy over the counter, or with a prescription from your doctor. They may be the realization of the harm being done to yourself and others you love and care about.

All over the world, smoking is one of the unhealthy habits that are very difficult to kick. People smoke for a variety of reasons. These reasons are mainly emotional in nature. There are smokers who smoke out of habit, and there are smokers who smoke to distract themselves from something undesirable or to comfort themselves. Quitting smoking can bring about a number of “bad behaviors,” often labeled as withdrawal symptoms. Regular sessions of hypnosis or hypnotherapy have been found to be one of the most effective, albeit requiring more time, ways to stop smoking.

Psychotherapists and hypnotists have studied hypnosis and smoking and have proven its worth effectively, helping smokers kick the habit more permanently.

There is a certain pleasure that smokers get out of puffing a cigarette. More often than not, this pleasure covers for an underlying problem a smoker has. It is getting to the root of this problem that is believed to bring a stop to the habit of smoking. Taking medications in order to stop smoking never really cures the problem. And so, even while some relief is felt out of taking these medications, the habit finds its way back. With hypnosis, the hypnotist helps the smoker get to the root of the problem by carefully unraveling the layers of issues that actually serve to mask the real reasons that bring about the urge or the need to smoke. Hypnotists like Ireland’s Paul Gill believe in using hypnosis as a viable alternative to advertised medicinal cures.

While smoking makes the smoker feel good somehow, it brings about a host of health problems. For one, it is the leading cause of lung cancer. Even second hand smokers or those who do not really derive pleasure from smoking but are exposed to the smoke coming from others’ cigarette puffs are in danger of contracting such an illness along with several other respiratory ailments. You will significantly improve the state of your health, and those around you, when you stop smoking whether through hypnosis or any other way. Your blood circulation as well as your lung function will be increased and your dangers of contracting coronary heart disease are decreased. Those who have closely researched hypnosis and smoking have found that smokers who quit smoking through hypnosis have greater likelihood of being able to do so for the long term.

Studies into hypnosis and smoking have shown a great percentage of success in stopping smoking. This is because it taps into the subconscious mind, which is what controls most of our habits. Hypnosis used in psychotherapy reprograms the subconscious mind to shun smoking and to go on a healthier pattern to deal with the issues that prompt a person to smoke in the first place. It does not take much to stop smoking through hypnosis. You only have to find a good hypnotist and commit to the process of hypnosis. It often takes quite a while with several hypnosis sessions in order to see some progress in your bid for a new smoke-free life. But, once you have reprogrammed your subconscious with the help of a hypnotist, you will never touch another stick of cigarette ever again in your life. There are very good hypnotists in Ireland, such as Paul Gill who can list a great number of successful quitters through his hypnosis treatments.

Are you ready to give up cigarettes? Ready to toss that last pack of cigarettes in the trash, turn your back on a life of smoking, and turn towards a healthy, happy, smoke-free life? Well that is great to hear. The world can use one less smoker; are you ready to be next in line?

If the answer to all the above questions is yes, yes, and yes then I ask that you give me just a few moments of your time and allow me to share with you valuable information how you can make quitting smoking easier than you thought possible. You see, it is possible to quit smoking; it is actually easy to quit smoking if you go about it the right way. I want to share with you the secret to easily stop smoking and how you can give up cigarettes forever.

So many smokers who try to quit go about it the completely wrong fashion. They typically make one of two mistakes: they either try to quit smoking “cold turkey” or they get help that focuses on the physical addiction to nicotine.

First of all let’s completely eliminate any thoughts you may have about quitting smoking cold turkey. People who try to quit cigarettes on their own experience a very low rate of success. If they do manage to quit it is only after several attempts (four on average) and they often suffer from relapse and light up again. So if you are serious about it, get help.

Many smokers who decide to get help often get the wrong kind of help. They fall into the trap of believing that they need to conquer the physical addiction to nicotine to stop smoking. They hear that nicotine addiction is one of the hardest addictions to break. So they turn to smoking cessation products that focus on relieving the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal. These products include the patch or smoking cessation medications.

But these methods are actually not much more successful that going cold turkey. Their success rates are not much higher than quitting cold turkey. It is because they focus on the entirely wrong addiction. And that is where the secret to give up cigarettes come in.

The addiction to smoking lies more in your MIND than in your BODY.

After years of smoking and thousands of cigarettes your brain gets tricked into believing that smoking helps to “relax” you, that it helps to make you “feel better.” Smoking becomes a crutch, a friend in need that you turn to when you need to feel relaxed. This manifests itself in the powerful cravings to smoke that derail most smoker’s attempts to quit. These cravings are the result of your mental addiction to smoking that lies in your subconscious mind, not in any kind of physical addiction to nicotine.

So in order to successfully quit cigarettes you need to eliminate these deep seated, subconscious cravings to smoke. The patch will not do it, nicotine gum will not do it, smoking cessation medications will not do it. The only smoking cessation technique that can successfully remove the subconscious desire to smoke is NLP hypnotherapy.

NLP hypnotherapy taps into your subconscious and powerfully, but gracefully, removes the cravings to smoke. All that you have to do is listen to a simple, relaxing recording that will put you into a calm state. Once you are in this completely relaxed state NLP goes to work erasing the cravings to smoke from your mind. Once the cravings are gone it is simple to give up cigarettes forever and go on to live a confident, happy life smoke-free life.

As a previous smoker myself I know how difficult it can be to stop the dirty habit. I got to a stage where I stopped smoking during the day and after meals but my main problem was not smoking when I was having a drink with friends who also smoked. Being a qualified hypnotherapist with a degree in Human Psychology I decided to seek help from one myself and it did the trick. Shortly after and now as a successful practising Peak Performance Strategist/ Hypnotherapist a friend of mine sadly passed away and I had a smoke again. I was disgusted with myself and I began my own research into strategies for giving up smoking. All four of my grandparents had died of smoking related diseases and I wasn’t going to make my family suffer my own slow death because of a habit I voluntarily chose to have. I refused to be so selfish. Essentially the main skeleton of how to get someone to stop smoking covers the following 5 points.

Outline a list of scientific research about why smoking is terrible for you and understand it.

Outline a list of social reasons why smoking is no longer acceptable, appreciated or cool and understand it.

Find as many motivators you can to stop smoking. List them and make them detailed and personal.

Analyse the financial savings of not smoking and create a ten year value of what that could mean if put to better use.

Under hypnosis reinforce all of the following, reprogramme the clients mind to that of an educated non-smoker who is fully aware of why you should be a non smoker with suggestions implanted to resist smoking at typical times such as when drinking, during stress.

Finish by creating powerful subconscious commitments to being a non-smoker. The 2 people this has failed for both fell asleep during hypnosis. It is by far the most powerful and most successful program I have ever used with people and I’ve been successful with people who have repeatedly failed using other methods. The fact is if you’re willing to invest in yourself just a little bit, you’ll end up saving a small fortune and having a longer healthier life with more money rather than a short one with a slow painful death and less money!

Personally I think the former sounds much more like fun

We all know how smoking can eventually damage our health. Regarding the money we burn, the way you crave for a smoke in the morning, how you get cranky if you don`t get a cigarette for a long time and I could go on forever with all the bad things that come along with a pack a smokes but I`m sure that you know them already. You just ignore them and keep telling yourself that you will be ok, and you won`t get lung cancer, heart disease, or some other deadly health problem.

If you tried already to quit but you didn`t make it, probably you haven`t tried hard enough. A pill, a nicotine patch or something similar can`t help you if you don`t really want to quit.

If you want to quit you just have to quit, stop teasing yourself by first reducing the amount of cigarettes. By doing so first, for the first couple of days you will smoke less and less and before you know it you will be back at square one. If you really want to quit, just throw away the pack you have and stop smoking. To quit smoking, the only thing you need is your mind and determination, I know you will say this is a clich?, but this is how I quit. There are a few steps to help you in this fight:

You have to fix your head, you want to quit and you will do so.

If your health is not enough think of what you could do with that money you burn daily.

This is the hardest, just stop smoking.

First few days will be difficult, because smoking is already a daily routine for you. The best way to take your mind of it is easy, just start look for something to do, see a movie, go hiking, go out with your friends but don`t go in a bar or a place where smoking is allowed because you will be like a fat kid in a candy shop.

Try to reduce in the first couples of weeks your contact with smokers and stop going to places like bars, clubs or anything similar. This will help lot to reduce craving. After about a week like this you will see some changes. Everything will improve, smell, taste, you`ll feel better in all respects, after this you will resist even better. But don`t force your luck by trying a cigarette, doing this will be like starting again. Find something to help you out and every time you want to light one up think at that something. This something usually is another person, if you have a kid, think of him.

Some people, when trying to quit smoking they start eating, this is not a good thing. Keep your meals in line, don’t exceed.

This indicates the great levels of tobacco distraction. Passive smoking which is also known as second hand smoking (SHS) first came to light with conclusive evidence in 1981.

A researcher by name Takeshi Hirayama first noticed the dangers of SHS on non-smoking Japanese women who were married to men who smoked. Since then dozens of other researchers have confirmed his findings despite a multi-million dollar campaign by big tobacco launched to discredit evidence supporting second hand smoking. Second hand smoke is the cornerstone to today’s anti-smoking campaigns and laws aimed at protecting public health. Second hand smoking made the tobacco problem a societal problem affect society a step beyond the smoker himself.

Studies show that the risk of lung cancer in non-smokers who come into contact with passive smoke is heightened by some 20 to 30 percent. Risk of heart disease is increased by 23 percent. The medical community recognizes that children are particularly at risk of passive smoking effects than adults. These adverse effects will include pneumonia and bronchitis, coughing and wheezing, worsening asthma, middle ear disease and some believe even neuro-behavioral impairment. Pregnant women are also in danger of second hand smoking. Her exposure to SHS will harm her fetus.

The following list shows the 2001 prevalence of SHS amongst children in selected countries of the world;

1. Cuba – 69%
2. Argentina – 68%
3. Poland – 67%
4. Indonesia – 63%
5. Chile – 57%
6. Russian Federation – 55%
7. China – 53%
8. Ukraine – 49%
9. Bolivia – 46%
10. Mexico – 45.5%
11. India – 43%
12. Nigeria – 34%
13. Haiti – 31%
14. Peru – 29%

In a secret report done on behalf of the US Tobacco Institute in 1978 the Roper Organisation noted that “what the smoker does to himself may be his business, but what the smoker does to the nonsmoker is quite a different matter. This we see as the most dangerous development yet to the viability of the tobacco industry that has yet occurred”. This was in apparent reference to passive smoking. As predicted second hand smoking became the basis of stinging anti-tobacco regulations world wide.

The following is a grouped list of harm caused by SHS;

Health effects on adults

Smelly hair

Strokes

Stinging eyes, watery blink more

Nose irritation

Lung cancer

Harms, clogs weakens arteries

Low birth weight

Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)

The discovery of second hand smoke was the final straw in the tobacco industry’s demise even though it has taken time. In recent years scientists have coined yet anther term that has infuriated pro-tobacco groups- third had smoke. This is a phenomenon that is a step beyond SHS. Third hand smoke is described as smoke that continues to linger way after SHS. It attaches itself to hair, clothes, carpets and so on and is considered still dangerous and harmful just as passive smok

If you are tired of feeling out-of-place by being a smoker and find it hard to quit smoking you are not alone. Enlightenment is what is needed to make your move to successful cessation from the powerful addiction of nicotine.

Today smoking is viewed as a taboo because of the proven health hazards of smoking and second-hand smoke. More and more places are introducing bylaws to limit areas where you can publicly smoke. You are now outnumbered by ex-smokers and non-smokers. You smell, your clothes smell and if you smoke in the house everything in your house smells. You know this and you want to quit; but how do you quit?

Nicotine is one of the most addictive substances. When you introduce it into your lungs, it reaches your brain in 6 seconds. It can take only one cigarette to become addicted and once addicted over time you form habits around smoking. You have one with coffee, a favourite drink or alcohol, while talking on the phone, when you get up or after you eat. You know your own habits that are tied to smoking. When the cravings hit you smoke and it feels good. Those cravings are both physical and psychological.

The reason why it can be so difficult to quit is because of the combination of those physical and psychological cravings that support your addiction. The physical craving is from the lack of nicotine in your brain’s feel good receptors that takes place of your endorphins. Those craving are triggered by the nicotine floating around in your blood stream. The psychological cravings come from your minds inner self that rationalizes your addiction. That inner self is the addictive voice that you created with this addition. The Rational Recovery Group whom teaches the addictive voice recognition concept for dealing with addictions calls this inner voice the beast. You can give it whatever name you want; it supports your addiction.

As a smoker, in your mind you may want to quit smoking, but when the mind and brain is in conflict it is the brain that usually wins. Your brain which is stimulated by pain and pleasure is addicted to the temporary pleasure provided by nicotine. When you’re out of nicotine the toxins from the cigarette make you feel bad but you want to feel good. Your mind with your addictive voice will make sure of that. Now that you know all this how do you quit?

In order to succeed in smoking cessation you must deal with three aspects to quitting smoking. They are the physical withdrawal, the psychological withdrawal and the detoxification of the body from nicotine and toxins introduced by your smoking. Foremost you must want to quit and even though the process of quitting may be a tough challenge, you will succeed and you will join the ranks of ex-smokers.

There are a variety of methods for quitting smoking. Cold turkey with a plan using information found on the Internet will work. There are support groups, websites and quit smoking books that will improve your success. Quit smoking aids known as the patch, gum and now inhaler work by slowly withdrawing the nicotine over time. Aids do work, however, they still put nicotine into your system and they too may become habit-forming. Another method is using drugs known as Zyban and Champix. Your doctor can prescribe one of these drugs to help with the physical withdrawal from nicotine. Their down side are the hefty warnings regarding their possible side effects. Other natural health methods are, acupuncture, laser therapy, hypnosis and bio-resonance. These methods are drug-free and despite the fact that each of them does not have an official study on their success rate, unofficial data shows them to be quite high. They usually have a program that deals with the three aspects to quitting smoking and provide support.

Knowledge gives you the power to achieve your goal. Garner as much as you can on the methods to quit and make your decision. Also check to see if you have referrals. Whatever method you choose, you must incorporate in your plan the three aspects to quitting smoking. Want, know, do and you will succeed.

Just the mere fact that you are reading this is proof you want to quit smoking and break free of your nicotine habit. As an ex-smoker myself, I can tell you truthfully the trials involved in quitting are not easy but it can be done and the rewards are awesome! Let me help you get started toward your goal with a few simple steps.

Step 1

The absolute most important part of acquiring your goal to be smoke free is your motivation and drive to quit. You have to be ready to meet your obstacles head on and stay focused on your quest. You are the only one who can say you are ready. No one else can say it for you or force it on you. If you have tried and failed in the past take heart, you may be the best candidate! Studies have shown that people who have tried to quit and failed are the ones who eventually succeed!

Step 2

Recognize and be ready for the fact that you are going to go through some pretty uncomfortable nicotine withdrawals. You are going to have overwhelming cravings to smoke. You may experience insomnia, tiredness, sore throat, coughing and a variety of other symptoms. Remember, withdrawal is short term. There are proven nicotine replacement aids that can ease your symptoms and help you get though this temporary phase. The aids come in the form of prescription drugs, gum, lozenges, patches or sprays. I preferred the sprays when I quit but each smoker is different. Research and find the one that suits your lifestyle the best.

Step 3

Name and recognize your triggers. Triggers are the things or moments you associate with smoking. They are the things and moments that will make you want to reach for a cigarette out of habit. For instance, perhaps you always enjoyed a cigarette with your morning paper or right after each meal. Acknowledge what your triggers are and try to rearrange your routine. Perhaps you could take a stroll after each meal. You will not be able to avoid all your triggers so when you do encounter one just recognize it for what it is and realize it will pass.

Step 4

Ask for help. To quit smoking successfully you need the support of those around you. Let your loved ones and fellow workers know that you are trying to quit. Ask them to bear with you if you experience any crankiness during your withdrawal phase. If any of them are smokers, request they try to refrain from smoking while you are around them. Seek out a support group. There is nothing better than having someone who has gone through the same thing to guide you along. If you are not particularly a people person, try one of the online groups. You are not in this alone and perhaps you can help someone else along the way! Establishing a support system is one of the more important steps.

So to start your journey with the method to quit smoking in four simple steps, admit you are ready, find a nicotine replacement aid, recognize your triggers and ask for help. The road this journey will take you on may be a little hilly but keep driving forward. Once you reach the end, you will be rewarded with a smoke free life. It is awesome and I know you can do it!
Yes, You CAN do it!
