Obesity, one of the most talked about medical dilemma of the day is on rapid increase with life changing consequences, but what are the causes, effects and cures?

This man-made disease is not depending on our doctors, technological advancements or even on our fine medical institutions but on our life styles choices, our physiological inheritance and sometimes our physical environments. The question then is how are we to think, live, eat, drink or exercise because all these factors impact our weight. Isn’t it simply amazing that with such enormous advancements in science, medicine and public health in this century we still have such an epidemic in fatness especially among the young children?

America,an undisputed leader in quality medicine with billions of dollars spent on disease treatment yearly yet we are among the fattest people on earth: So much to be proud of and yet so much to be ashamed of.

Causes of Obesity.

There are many causes I have discovered to this problem even though there is much advancement in diagnostic technology, both at the molecular level and in genetics there are still no specific surgical or medical cures. First let us look at the calorific needs of a person.

What is a calorie: It is the unit used to find the energy value of the foods we eat and the energy used up by our bodies for normal functions of everyday living. When the calories from food intake equal the calories of energy the body uses, weight remains stable. But when more calories are eaten than the body used, the body stores the extra calories as fat, causing weight gain. It is said that approximately one pound (1 lb) of fat equals about 3,500 excess calories.

Genetic makeup: If a child inherited the excessive body fat cells of his obese parents, he will tend to eat extra food than his body needs; therefore, making him an obese individual as well. Parents it is vital that we learn how to correctly select and prepare healthy foods, learn correct life styles and model them in the home because research has shown that “children live what they learn.”

Lifestyles also play a major function in overweight.

Eating big servings of unhealthy foods at restaurants and fast foods joints plays a major role in providing additional calories, salt, sugar and fats but these are the exact ingredients we need to limit.

Less time for exercise and other physical activities will definitely not help to reduce the weight.

Friends, we are in big trouble because we need to move around and doing tireless recreational activities such as browsing the internet, video games, movies, couch potato before the television promote an inactive lifestyle. Effects and Possible Complications Obesity increases the risk of developing disease and sometimes leads to amputated limbs.

Other possible complications include:

Heart disease

High cholesterol

High blood pressure

Cancers of the breast, colon, prostate, lungs

Diabetes

Gallbladder disease

Arthritis

Osteoporosis Breathing problems

Bloating and stomach upsets

Varicose veins

Severe psychological problems

Working in the medical field, I discovered some pretty alarming facts such as:

70 percent of heart disease cases in the United States are linked to excess body fat

Obese people are more than twice as likely to develop high blood pressure.

Obese women are at nearly double the risk for developing breast cancer

All obese people have a likely 42 percent higher chance of developing colon cancer.

Almost 80 percent of patients with Type 2 diabetes are obese.

The danger of medical complications, mainly heart disease, increases when body fat accumulates leading to blocked arteries.

The social and psychological problems experienced by obese people are huge and sometimes difficult to treat so it becomes very challenging. Stress and discrimination is more likely to occur in schools, work, and social gatherings and sometimes are the first things people experiences. Other psychological problems include depression, massive frustration, poor self esteem, suicide, nervous tension and sometimes nervous breakdown, boredom, lack of friends, lack of confidence, poor assertiveness skills and inferiority complex. Today I just got the sad news that a high school friend died recently of complications of obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure. He ate himself into an early grave. I know some individuals will not listen but death awaits and the sad part is: these people would pay their last dollar when faced with death for another chance at life but then it’s too late. Stop the insanity on your life and health.

Cures for Obesity

I know and believe that life style diseases such as obesity is preventable and reversible; therefore, I will continue to encourage everyone slim, or fat practice the these three cures for healthy living.

Positive Mental Attitude: How the body and mind work together for the success or failure of every human beings.

Proper Diets: Choosing and preparing healthy foods with less salt, sugar, calories, meats, cholesterol, fats and oils; but increasing your intake of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, tubers and legumes.

Eradicate or drastically reduce sugary juices and increase your water intake should result in a definite reduction in weight.

Correct Exercises – not all exercises are appropriate for everyone but with so many different types of exercises, there is something for everyone to stay fit not fat.

Health by design not chance has its rewards but the key is knowledge. Do you have the knowledge of how the human body functions and how to prevent or reverse life style diseases? I say health is wealth, what says you?

Both childhood and adult obesity is now a huge dilemma and require urgent attention or else the children will not outlive the parents for the first time ever. If knowledge is the key to change obesity, then who is the teacher? The government is not able, parents most times lack the knowledge and teachers too busy; therefore, it becomes the responsibility of health professionals, we must take up the challenge and try to educate as many as possible.

Obesity is Americas leading problems resulting from overeating. There are a great number of woman who are suffering from obesity and can’t help but continue to overeat.

What may be the reasons why people overeat? How can this be prevented? Is there any way to overcome overeating?

These questions may be coming back and forth into your minds and you just can’t figure out what to do next. Before you will find the answer to overeating you need first to know the reason behind the phenomenon. Of course there are solutions to overeating and there are definitely ways to lose weight. To lose weight one must control ones eating habits. This is one factor why you gain pounds and pounds of weight because you eat more than what your body can consume. This is for sure one reason why people are obese.

How to overcome overeating is the question then that needs to be answered. There are a lot of reasons of overeating; this includes biological and emotional reasons. Let’s take it step by step for us to clearly understand.

Let’s take a look at the biological factors of overeating.

Biological factor of overeating comes in when say you have been intensely exercising the whole morning and not getting enough calories; you only took something light, let’s say just a cup of coffee. Skipping breakfast would mean doubling the meal you have lost on the following meal. So in other words skipping meals will not help weight loss, it will only worsen it. To avoid overeating in every meal, take something light in between meals or instead of eating only 3 crazily heavy meals (which is what I was doing before) why not divide it into 6 light meals so you won’t feel hungry and tend to overeat or best thing to do is to drink water to avoid hunger pangs. I am not an expert but I do that and worked for me. My idea of sharing this is to help you overcome overeating and join the weight loss success I am experiencing right now.

Now, let’s take a look at the emotional factor of overeating.

Stress or depression could sometimes lead to overeating. When people are physically or mentally stressed they tend to look for an outlet to relieve the stress and sometimes they find consolation in food. But there are actually a lot of ways to relieve stress? But the truth is when you overeat you are not relieving stress and it’s the other way around. What to do with that? Instead of running right into the fridge and grabbing a pound of cold burger, its best to take a few rest, sit back and relax, clear your minds. This is the real way to de-stress. Having a warm bath can also help relieve stress, or taking a nap, a whole body massage, lighting a candle, listening to your favorite music while relaxing, a lot of ways other than fattening. Another emotional factor which is an issue for most women on a diet (which was also my issue before), the moment you keep yourself a slave of your own rule “Never eat anything sweet”, would end up overeating it because they think they won’t have it again. Does this sound familiar to you? So instead, do not deprive yourself. Eat anything you want but moderately not too much as if you can’t have another bite of it.

Surgery is a general term for primarily two types of surgery. As with all surgery of this type this is designed for people with a Body Mass Index of over 40. Now people with a BMI between 35 through 40 that have serious weight related illness such as diabetes, high blood pressure and certain heart disease. People need to realize that this is not a cure-all. Everyone who asks for this is screened to see if they will respond to the surgery and be willing to exercise on a regular basis and learn and use healthy eating habits. The two most common types of surgery are gastric bypass and lap band surgery. With gastric bypass the surgeon forms a pouch that bypasses a major part of the stomach and attaches the pouch to the small intestines. The adjustable gastric banding is a band placed around the stomach and is filled with a fluid that can be added or removed as needed through a small port near the skin. The band restricts the food intake and you now fill up faster and eat less food. With both of these procedures lap gastric banding is the safer of the two. This procedure is usually done as an outpatient and gastric bypass surgery usually requires a two-day stay at the hospital. With gastric banding the doctor may have to adjust the band depending on if there is vomiting or the band is to lose.

More and more obese people are trying to have the gastric banding procedure as this is the least invasive of the two procedures. As with any procedure some of the complications of gastric banding are infection of the band or the port. The stomach could move and have slippage. The most dangerous is when the band erodes through infection and works it’s way inside the stomach. This is very rare and occurs in less than 1% of all cases. If you are thinking of getting the procedure make sure you have all the facts such as gastric bypass surgery patients will have a higher rate of weight loss in their diets than gastric banding. The gastric banding procedure is to be used along with diet and exercise and help you get started in losing weight. It is not supposed to be the final answer to weight loss. These weight loss surgeries are a bridge to what you are doing to getting acclimated to a diet with exercise and healthy eating habits. It will help you in portion control and you need the diet to teach you the good eating habits.

It seems like every time you turn your head there’s a new way to get rid of belly fat. The number one area that people want to lose weight from is on their stomach. But, with the endless diets, pills, exercise plans, machines and more, it’s hard to know what you should be doing to burn off belly fat fast.

Here I will list what you should stop doing followed by a super easy way to shed off belly fat that worked for me.

High Protein Diets – Don’t Do This

So, this type of diet started out in board room meetings. Companies were looking for ways to sell shakes and bars so they created all types of high protein diet information. People gravitated to this new way to lose weight and it quickly became very popular.

The idea with a high protein diet is that thermogenic levels will increase in your body. This is true. However, increasing your bodies temperature will do very little to burn off fat. It will help you burn off a few extra calories every day.

Ab Exercises – Don’t Do This

There are loads of ab exercises that you’ll find on the internet. There’s also an almost endless supply of new ab machines being released on the market. The fact is, none of this works to get rid of fat stomachs. Yes, doing these exercise will build some ab muscle but so what if your belly is covered in fat!

If you like to exercise then focus on whole body circuit training. This involves doing 5 or 6 exercises that work out your chest, back, legs, arms, and shoulders. You do the exercises non stop until your done. Then, take a minute break and do them all again. People are wrong to think that they need to exercise their abs to get rid of belly fat.

Easy Solution to Losing Belly Fat

There are a number of healthy, natural herbs and minerals that will send your metabolism through the roof. In fact, taken in the right combination, your body will melt away unwanted belly fat in record time. I did this to get rid of belly fat and it work very, very fast.

This is the easiest way you’ll ever find to get rid of belly fat. Do yourself a favor and checkout natural supplements before starting any sort of exercise or diet plan.

For many people with severe weight problems, the answer may lie in a surgical procedure to help them regain control. But choosing the best type of surgery can be difficult. There are many factors to consider when making a decision between procedures like Lap Band and gastric bypass surgery.

The Lap Band procedure involves the placement of a band device known as a Lap Band around the upper stomach. The band reduces the size of the stomach, thereby limiting the patient’s food intake, leading to weight loss.

The gastric bypass procedure involves stapling of the stomach to make it smaller, thus restricting food intake. In addition, the small intestine is rerouted to bypass part of the small intestine, thereby limiting the absorption of nutrients during digestion. The combination of reduced appetite and restricted absorption leads to weight loss.

While both procedures may bring about the desired end result of substantial weight loss, the Lap Band procedure offers several advantages, including these five:

Less Invasive. It is typically placed using laparoscopic surgery, which involves small incisions and the use of cameras. Gastric bypass, on the other hand, is usually done as an open surgery, meaning it involves a large incision.

Simpler. The procedure is a much simpler surgery than gastric bypass surgery. As such, it typically takes about one hour to perform, whereas gastric bypass can take up to four hours. The procedure can also be performed as an outpatient procedure, whereas gastric bypass requires a two- or three-day hospital stay.

More Control. Because the Lap Band device is adjustable, the patient and surgeon maintain more control over the weight loss process than is possible with gastric bypass. The device can be inflated or deflated in response to the weight loss progress and nutritional needs of the patient. The procedure can also be completely reversed.

Less Risk. Because the procedure is performed laparoscopically, it is a less risky procedure overall. Following surgery, Lap Band carries less risk of dumping syndrome, in which undigested stomach contents enter the intestines too quickly, causing cramps and nausea.

Slow, Steady Weight Loss. With this procedure, there is a slower, steadier weight loss, which is the approach health professionals recommend for long-term success.

The cost of the gastric procedure is comparable to the Lap Band surgery cost. However, with gastric bypass surgery, there could be additional expenses later on, as many people experience a stretching out of the stomach pouch and a regaining of weight. Once they do, many opt for StomaphyX, a secondary procedure especially for those who have gained back the weight following gastric bypass. With Lap Band, no secondary procedure is required.

Many people across the country choose to undergo a bariatric surgery procedure in order to improve their quality of life. Bariatric surgery patients across the nation are able to lose mass quantities of weight, allowing them to lead a healthier and more active lifestyle.

Is it possible that a natural sugar which is found in fruit could be one of the main causes of childhood obesity and of diabetes? It would probably be foolish to suggest that any one thing is THE cause, but a 10 week study including 16 subjects on a strictly controlled diet, has produced evidence that fructose is at least one of the causes. The study found that fructose, a natural sugar found in small amounts in fruit, is a significant player in the problem. Fructose can be produced very cheaply from corn. As a result it is used to sweeten thousands of products such as soft drinks, cakes and pastries, cereals, yogurt and even salad dressings, to mention just a few.

Not only that but a recent study has determined that fructose, consumed in large quantities, produces a layer of fat cells around the heart, liver and certain other organs. Fructose is not digested in the way that other sugars are. It arrives undigested and intact in the liver where it results in a number of abnormal reactions including breakdown of the messages which result in the body either burning or storing fat. A molecular biologist who led this study has stated that this is the first evidence that fructose increases diabetes and heart disease.

Fructose represents 5 to 10 percent of the weight of fruit. It is produced from corn by a process of synthesis which produces a corn syrup with 55 percent fructose and 45 percent glucose. This syrup is six times sweeter than cane sugar and costs less. This high fructose corn syrup is used in the production of many food and drink products. Glucose, unlike fructose, is digested in the normal way and the study found that it did not cause these problems, in subjects who consumed glucose only, with no fructose.
Chorionic villus sampling
Sugar is a product which the human body does not process well. We are not designed to consume the large quantities of sugar that have become a part of our modern diet. Whether that sugar be sucrose (cane sugar), fructose or glucose it is definitely advisable to keep its consumption to a minimum. It remains to be proven whether consumption of fructose in its natural form in fruit is equally dangerous. My gut instinct tells me that fruit consumption is not only safe but is also healthy, since mankind has consumed fruits and vegetables for millions of years.

Compulsive eating is a form of eating disorder where people are addicted to food and turn to food to overcome unresolved emotional trauma.

Compulsive overeating may have its beginning in the early childhood years when the child unknowingly turned to food for comfort. Compulsive eaters lack the ability to stop eating when they have consumed enough. They may spend hours eating compulsively and may have more than one eating ‘episode’ in a day.

Fortunately, it is possible to treat compulsive overeating completely. The treatment approach consists of medical, psychological and nutritional assistance.

The pharmacological treatment for compulsive eating consists of antidepressants primarily. In some cases, psychological treatment is also provided in the form of behavioral and interpersonal therapy. In the long term, this therapy can help build the self confidence of sufferers.

Another important part of the treatment of compulsive overeating involves understanding the nutritional requirements of the body so that sufferers can supply these needs in the appropriate manner. Ongoing nutritional counseling develops a proper plan for eating well and ensures that the patient is following this plan religiously.

Behavior modification lies at the heart of the treatment of compulsive eating.

Some helpful techniques include:

- The regular maintenance of a food diary

- Developing habits that make it easy to be more disciplined about food (like eating food in one place, eating at the same time etc)

- Abstaining from storing problem foods

- Avoiding eating when alone

- Shopping for groceries when you are not hungry

- Trying to find other outlets for emotional issues than compulsive eating

- Setting small achievable goals and be patient with yourself while you get there

- Rewarding yourself – but not with food

The treatment for compulsive eating takes some time. Even after a patient has been completely cured, there might be times when stress and pain can push them towards taking comfort in food. But, constant awareness of underlying problems and complete dedication to the cause of overcoming compulsive eating can help patients overcome compulsive overeating and live a joyful life.

Some of this will be blatantly obvious to you because you find that your clothes feel a little bit tight and your body is starting to bulge in places that never did previously. By simply looking in the mirror you would be able to see any excess weight you have on your body. When you go for a walk you feel like you are jiggling as you go.

There are a few definitions of overweight and it’s probably something that many people do not understand and need it clarified a little better. The following information is really just to give you an understanding and of course it’s always recommended that you consult your physician in order to be 100% sure.

Being overweight means that you are likely to be 10% to 20% more than your normal healthy weight. You can find many charts and information available on the Internet which will supply you with your ideal weight. If for example your healthy weight shouldn’t be 125 pounds and it turns out that you are touching between 140 and just over 150 pounds you are basically overweight.

When it comes to somebody who is obese is slightly different because they will weigh 20% more then what they should. Then we get into the realms of morbidly obese, which is not a place you want to be and I guarantee anybody who is at this stage needs a lot of help. Basically somebody who is this heavy will be 50 to 100 percent of both their recommended healthy weight. This can be a serious health problem and something that needs attention and advice from a dietitian and physician.

Many of us as we get older will put on a little bit of weight because we may not be as active as we where. It’s important to try to keep a little bit of physical exercise in your life whether this is simply walking or taking a trip to the gym a couple times a week. Things like swimming and yoga can also help you do not need to overexert it is just the constant keeping yourself healthy and fit is what really pays off in the long run.

Obesity is a common condition in the United States that has increased greatly over the past couple of decades. Many balance the growing waistlines on fast foods, while others claim the US population has simply become lazy. With 4 out of 10 being overweight it is hard to argue with. Being overweight is more than looks, today individuals are finding that carrying the extra weight increases their chances of disease and has even been said to shorten their lives by several years. So, this growing epidemic must be taken seriously to say the least. The statistics do not lie meaning that each and every person needs to find ways to engage in a healthier lifestyle.

A Pound A Day

Most people are not putting on a pound a day, but it is not uncommon for a 10 pound increase over a year’s time. With 59 million Americans being obese, they are gaining much faster than they should be. There are a number of reasons for those weight gains and everyone has their own excuses, however that doesn’t help their health. Of course the most obvious is eating healthy, through a well balance and nutritious diet. Another important facet of losing weight is through exercise. Anything from walking, swimming to hitting the gym can help keep weight off and improve overall well being.

A Few Weight Reduction Tips
Cialis professional
Soda and junk food must be kept to a minimum. They are both loaded with sugar and have zero nutritional value. Instead try low fat snacks and a glass of water. Water is another important part of weight maintenance. Not only does it hydrate the body and fill the stomach it actually helps the body flush the toxins, releasing the additional that the body does not need. Watching calories and teaching children to eat healthy as well as stay active is a good way to combat the increasing obesity statistics. Otherwise obesity will soon claim more lives than other diseases.

When people have bariatric surgery, there is always the chance of having side effects. This is a major surgery and there are big changes that happen to the body. The stomach is made to be a smaller size then before and with this change the body will react differently. One thing that will change is your eating habits. It takes time to learn a new diet and what you can and cannot eat after this surgery. After having this surgery, the body feels and reacts to things differently and with this comes a few side effects that some people experience.

Some people experience nausea several months after the surgery as a side effect. This happens because of the new eating habits that people have and they may do things such as eating their food to fast and taking too large of bites when they eat. They may not fully chew their food before swallowing and eat food that is not moist enough and also may eat too much food at one sitting. These things can be avoided by watching what and how you eat your food. You should always stop eating when you have the feeling of being full. With over eating there is more of a chance of getting sick and vomiting. Always chew your food up all the way and not too fast to make sure it is chewed properly before swallowing.

Another reason your stomach may feel upset after bariatric surgery is from not drinking enough fluids. You should try to drink at least two liters of water each day. Another side effect that people may experience is called the dumping syndrome. It is when stomach contents are quickly dumped into the small intestines. This may take place after the patient adds greasy and sugary foods into their diet. This syndrome may also make you experience sweating, weakness, diarrhea and a fast heart rate. These side effects can be very unlikable but are not threatening to your life. One way to avoid this from happening is to keep away from foods that contain a lot of fat and sugar.

Another side effect that patients may experience is feeling intolerance to the cold. This can be from losing weight and the patients metabolism shifting. It is important to know all the side effects that you may experience after having bariatric surgery. Each person should know exactly what to expect after having the surgery.
