Acid reflux treatment

Posted by admin on October 26th, 2009

Heartburn may be the most common physical problem known to man, at least in America where we eat just about anything at anytime. This article will take a brief look at the symptoms and treatment of acid reflux disease and hopefully it will help you to gain victory over your suffering. I believe if you follow what is here you can achieve relief.
Natural Remedies for Heartburn
For the severest acid reflux cases, or the more serious GERD, these over-the-counter remedies will not work. You need to look out for any side effects that may occur if you have been using antacids for a long period of time.

If your physician has diagnosed you with acid reflux then it’s recommended that you visit him on a regular basis even if you think that the problem is gone. Also, it’s very important that you tell your healthcare provider what herbal treatments you were using to cure your condition because this will help make a correct evaluation.
Gerd information
The treatment of acid reflux may be dependent on if the stomach acid is volatile. Sometimes it ends up volatile, for whatever reason, and you need to calm it down. I’ve found that vinegar works well because of the natural enzymes. Just add more vinegar based food to your diet and you’ll be all set.

One can always deal with the gastric acid reflux disease in an effective manner, that is to say, if the disease has not reached a very bad stage. If you remain aware of yourself and employ proper measures to tackle this problem, you will get well soon.

As well as using herbal teas, another well known herbal treatment for acid reflux is chicory root which can also help to treat other digestive problems as well. This particular herb can easily be found in either your local health food store or grocery store as well as being available for purchase online.

The most common heartburn and acid reflux symptoms in women are the same for men, other than those found during the pregnancy. These would include, but not limited to, a burning sensation behind the chest plate that intensifies when bending over or stooping down, problems swallowing, an irritated throat and a scratchy sounding voice, a gassy feeling coupled with burping and an upset stomach.

Another option of treatment for acid reflux disease is vinegar. It has natural enzymes that calm the stomach acid. Obviously you can’t just drink bottles of vinegar, you need to add it into your diet. The vinegar based products like salad dressing and ketchup that you add in, the less likely you’re going to experience any form of acid reflux.

Creating home remedies for acid reflux is easy if you have the required ingredients. Things like cabbage, pineapples, papaya and vegetables are usually important elements that are used to make ginger root, apple cider vinegar and things like that. It should be reminded that these home remedies may only fix your problems temporary. If you are still facing acid reflux issues, then you are suggested to seek doctors’ advice for long term treatment.

Heartburn is a very unpleasant condition but if you’re patient, you can forget about the symptoms very fast. I recommend you try these herbal acid reflux remedies but as always, make sure you consult your doctor first before proceeding.

Manic Episodes

Posted by admin on October 23rd, 2009

I. DSM-IV Diagnostic Criteria

A. At least one week of abnormally and persistently elevated, expansive or
irritable mood (may be less than one week if hospitalization is required).
B. During the period of mood disturbance at least three of the following have

persisted in a significant manner (four if mood is irritable):
1. Inflated self-esteem or grandiosity.
2. Decreased need for sleep.
3. The patient has been more talkative than usual or feels pressure to
keep talking.
4. Flight of ideas (jumping from topic-to-topic) or a subjective sense of
racing thoughts.
5. Distractibility.
6. Increased goal-directed activity or psychomotor agitation.
7. Excessive involvement in pleasurable activities with a high potential for
painful consequences (ie, sexual indiscretion)
C. Does not meet criteria for a mixed episode (see page 27).
D. Symptoms must have cause marked impairment in social or occupational
functioning, or have required hospitalization to prevent harm to self or
others, or psychotic features are present.
E. The symptoms cannot be caused by a medical condition, medication or
drugs.

II. Clinical Features of Manic Episodes

A. The most common presentation is excessive euphoria, but some patients
may present with irritability alone. These patients seek out constant
enthusiastic interaction with others, frequently using poor judgment in
those interactions.
B. Increased psychomotor activity can take the form of excessive planning
and participation, which are ultimately nonproductive. Reckless behavior
with negative consequences is common (eg, shopping sprees, excessive
spending, sexual promiscuity).
C. Inability to sleep can be severe and persist for days. Lability of mood and
grandiose delusions are common.
D. Speech is pressured, loud and intrusive, and it is often difficult to interrupt
these patients. Flight of ideas can result in gross disorganization and
incoherence of speech.
E. Patients frequently lack insight into their behavior and resist treatment.
Patients may become grossly psychotic most frequently with paranoid
features. Patients may become assaultive, particularly if psychotic.
Dysphoria is common at the height of a manic episode, and the patient
may become suicidal.

Acid reflux disease

Posted by Canadian health care on October 12th, 2009

As you know, Acid Reflux, also known as GERD or more commonly Heartburn occurs when a weakening of the muscle valve between the stomach and the esophagus allows stomach acid to reflux into the esophagus. This stomach acid inflames and irritates the esophagus, giving us the symptoms of a burning sensation rising up your chest and/or an unpleasant, sour and acidic taste in the mouth. In severe cases, the sufferer may have difficulty in swallowing and sleeping, however there are self-help measures, which you can take in the first instance to alleviate the symptoms and gain relief:
Acid reflux treatment
* The first tip is possibly easier said than done, but healthcare professionals have stated that if you are overweight, losing weight often reduces some of the severity of the symptoms and the frequency of them occurring, because when you are overweight, this adds pressure to your stomach.

* It is generally agreed that you should eat smaller meals on a frequent basis rather than the traditional three meals per day, as this reduces the amount of stomach acid required at any on time to digest the food.

* You will probably not be surprised to read that smoking is also on the list of things you should avoid, again not easy for everyone. The smoke from cigarettes and cigars can further irritate the esophagus, thereby aggravating the condition and making the symptoms worse.

* Each person will be a little different, but you will often find that certain foodstuffs act as triggers for the onset of a bout of acid reflux, and these are usually such things as coffee, chocolate, spices like Chilli, Paprika, and Cayenne Pepper amongst others, also alcohol, tomatoes and fatty foods – in fact most of the things I like! It may take some trial and error, but try gradually removing some or all of these from your diet and you may well see improvement.

* Due to the fact that the condition is usually at its worst, when you are horizontal, you may find relief from raising the head-end of your bed ( making sure that it is still stable of course). This allows gravity to help in allowing the acid to flow back down to the stomach. The common mistake here is to use extra pillows to raise the head, but you should avoid this, as it also increases the pressure on your abdomen.

Hopefully, these tips will help you if you suffer from this very uncomfortable digestive disorder – however, of course, if they do not, then you should seek help from a medical professional.

There are a lot of people, however, who are convinced that to really ‘cure’ acid reflux, you need a holistic and natural approach, which will provide lasting relief from digestive disorders.

Chlamydia Complications

Posted by admin on October 6th, 2009

Chlamydia complications among men are uncommon, but may include pain, fever, and, in rare cases, sterility. They are preventable if diagnosed and treated early, but have the potential to create a very serious public health issue if ignored. So don’t ignore it any longer – get yourself tested and always use a condom. Chlamydia complications among men are rare.

What To Do

Screening for chlamydia in incarcerated adolescents has been shown to be a cost-effective strategy for preventing adverse health consequences. Syphilis prevalence in incarcerated adolescents is relatively low. Screening for chlamydia is critical because 75% of women and 50% of men with chlamydia have no symptoms, or symptoms that are so mild they do not seek care. If left untreated in women, chlamydia can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease, infertility, and potentially fatal tubal pregnancy.

Untreated chlamydia leads to pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) in women. This is an infection of the reproductive organs of women. Untreated chlamydia leads to Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) in women.
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is an infection of a woman’s reproductive organs that can be caused by sexually transmitted bacteria such as chlamydia and gonorrhea.

This infection can lead to serious consequences including infertility. Pelvic inflammatory disease is the single most frequent serious infection encountered by women. The disease afflicts more than 1 million women each year and generates annual health care costs of approximately 4.2 billion dollars. Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is an acute infection in the organs of the pelvis. It can affect the uterus, fallopian tubes and/or ovaries.

Untreated chlamydial infections can also cause inflammation of the bladder. In women who have anal sex with a partner who has chlamydia, the bacteria can cause proctitis (an infection of the lining of the rectum).

What Not To Do

Persons being treated for Chlamydia should not have sexual intercourse for seven days after single dose therapy (azrithromycin) or until completion of all seven days of antibiotics (doxycycline). Patients can be re-infected if their sex partners are not treated. Persons with a chlamydia infection have an increased chance of getting other infections such as gonorrhea or HIV.

Gum Disease Treatment

Posted by Health articles on October 4th, 2009

A gum disease treatment is something that your doctor will do in-office. It may involve minor surgery, the use of lasers or in-office ‘deep cleanings’. However, these in-office treatments by themselves – may not provide the results your are looking for or the problem may recur later.

This is because there is a critical component to gum disease treatments that you should be aware of. Namely, you need to take care of your gums at home. This requires knowledge and daily work. Failure in this area will limit the success of your doctor’s in-office treatment.

You can ask your doctor or any dental professional. The key to improved gum tissue health revolves more fully around what you do at home. Without this work at home on your part, it is very possible that more expensive and possibly painful (during the recovery) treatments will be on the horizon.

The good news is that most people can improve their gum health at home and even avoid expensive treatments through good oral care maintenance at home. The bad news is that like an ostrich with its head buried in the sand, your unprotected end is exposed to whatever may happen next.

Unfortunately, even your doctor and other professionals in the office may not tell you what you can do at home, beyond basic brushing and flossing, to improve your gum health. Some do, but many do not.

This creates a puzzle for patients that many are not even aware of. This puzzle must be solved. Having the right tools and right understanding about combating gum disease is crucial to your success.

Hand foot mouth disease

Posted by admin on September 28th, 2009

Hand foot mouth disease is a viral disease you don’t hear about a lot although it does affect many children under the age of 10 as well as some adults. The time that is most common is during the summer and fall months.

Some of the symptoms that usually develop include a fever, a sore throat or mouth, and many times a loss of appetite. These are your earlier symptoms. Normally within a period of a couple of days, blisters will form in the mouth and on the tongue. Children sometimes will develop a blistering rash on their fingers and on the palms of their hands, as well as on the soles of their feet which is usually painless. If your infant turns up with it, they normally end up with a rash on her behind as well.

There isn’t any real treatment for hand foot mouth disease other than to try to relieve the pain and fever with acetaminophen. You also want to give the person that is infected with this illness plenty of water and fluids. Often times it is nice to offer them foods that are soft and bland, and beverages that are either cool or warm but never hot. Another thing that might help the mouth pain either fruit pops or fudge sickles. Just something to help numb the mouth.

This virus is easily spread, so if your child ends up with it they shouldn’t go back to school. It is necessary to keep them out of school or keep yourself out of work until all the symptoms are completely gone. In most cases the symptoms will disappear within a week, so you can pretty much count your self out for that week of work or your child from that week of school.

The way that the virus spreads is through mucous membranes such as the mouth and the nose. It can also spread through contact with fecal matter, so it is always important to wash your hands after using the restroom. Make sure that you pay close attention to keeping your hand sanitary after cleaning your child’s nose or changing your baby’s diaper as this is an easy way to spread the disease. Hand sanitizer is a must.

Although this disease isn’t real common it is important to know what to look for are what to consider that it might be if symptoms appear. Try to keep the person comfortable and wait out the virus. That is about all that you can really do.

Osteoporosis is on the increase in the world, but particularly in the western world. With increased knowledge about health care and better diets than in past decades, how is this possible?

It really comes down to diet. There is a saying that you are what you eat. Women are traditionally the primary food providers in a family. With women now going to work, often full time, convenience food is becoming more common.
Most people are aware convenience food aren’t healthy, but they are, well, convenient.
But there is absolutely no need to fall for the fast food, the supermarket packets, the frozen food, the tinned food, to bring together a meal quickly. These are all ‘dead’ foods, most having been processed so much there are few nutrients left.

You can create a quick meal which is also nutritious. It’s just knowing what you need. And how to do it.

Most people don’t eat nearly enough fresh fruit and vegetables. This should be the key to every healthy diet, not just when you’re trying to prevent or reverse osteoporosis. Make fresh fruit and vegetables at least 50% of your diet.

Try to eat as much of it raw as possible. Cooking destroys enzymes and enzymes are essential to good health.

Buy appetizing and exciting produce. Don’t just purchase the normal, if it doesn’t excite you. Make eating a pleasure. Don’t stint on this side of your grocery bill.

If you are on a budget, you will be far healthier to spend the bulk of it on fresh fruit and vegetables than on meat, dairy or convenience foods.
Green leafy vegetables, such as spinach, kale, bok choi, broccoli, etc are very high in digestible calcium, in natural balance. These can be quite a dull vegetable to eat, especially raw. But if you have a powerful blender, you can include them in delicious smoothies.
For example, blend bananas, raspberries and baby spinach. Vary the ingredients and quantities to suit your palate, but make sure there is plenty of spinach. This is one of the best and most delicious answers to preventing and reversing osteoporosis.

How’s that for a quick, easy and above all, nutritious breakfast? I challenge you to try that one on your kids, too.

This alone will do you far more good than any isolated or synthetic mineral supplement on the market. You evolved to gain your nutrients from food. Isolated and synthetic supplements are made in the laboratory. They are not in natural balance and at best are quickly eliminated (expensive poo). At worst they hang up in parts of your body where they have the potential of causing damage.

Damage such as kidney stones. Some of the supplements have even been found to cause osteoporosis.

Supplementing your diet is certainly a sound idea, in today’s stressful world. You just need to be aware that there are supplements and supplements. Blue green algae is known as a super food. This means that it has all the macro nutrients and many of the micro nutrients, all in natural balance. So it can be absorbed by your body easily.

Chlamydia: Symptoms And Treatment

Chlamydia is the most frequently reported infectious disease in the United States. More than 450,000 cases were reported in 1995. Chlamydia is caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis and is a very common sexually transmissible infection (STI). It is often called the ’silent infection’ because most people do not realise they have it. Chlamydia can infect the eyes if they come in contact with genital secretions from an infected person. The bacteria can also be spread to a baby during birth if the mother has the infection, causing problems with the baby’s eyes or a lung infection (pneumonia).

Tips to Overcome Depression

Symptoms

Symptoms of chlamydia normally occur one to three weeks after infection. However, many people who have chlamydia are unaware that they have the infection. Symptoms of chlamydia may be similar in men and women. Symptoms of Chlamydia infection in the eyes generally occur within 10 days of birth. Although your baby will be alert and aware, his eyes will be irritated and red.

Symptoms of chlamydia can lead to occurence of cancer. Symptoms of chlamydia are vague, mainly an unusual vaginal discharge, and 70 percent of women don’t have any at all that is why it’s called a ’silent’ infection. Left untreated, chlamydia can cause infertility, so see your doctor if you’re concerned.

Painful sexual intercourse, burning sensation during urination and fever are also some of its symptoms. Pelvic pain or lower abdominal pain can be an early indicator of pelvic inflammatory disease or PID, one of the leading causes of infertility in women. Pain and swelling in the testicles are uncommon. Pain and inflammation on the testicles are also found in some cases. Both men and women, who received the infection as part of anal sex, are likely to develop rectal pain and bleeding.

Treatment

Chlamydia can easily be treated. Both partners must be treated at the same time. Chlamydia is the leading cause of pneumonia in infants under 6 months of age. Pneumonia infects 5 to 20% of infants whose mothers had chlamydia at the time of birth, more than 30,000 babies a year.

If Chlamydia is left untreated, it can cause health and fertility problems. In 2002, 834,555 chlamydial infections were reported to CDC from 50 states and the District of Columbia. It is actually the result of bacteria being passed from one person to another via sexual contact, and the condition is usually highly preventable by using barrier methods of birth control, especially male or female condoms during any type of intercourse or sexual play.

Nail Fungus Cure

Posted by Canadian health care on August 3rd, 2009

Nail fungus infections are caused by tiny organisms that infect fingernails and toenails. Our fingernails and toenails are very resistant to outside infections. Hence it is difficult for an outside infection to invade the nail, but once they invade, then it becomes hard to remove infections inside the nail.

It is observed that a fungus of the nail develops more often in the toenails than fingernails because toenails reside under your socks and shoes and are thus kept dark, warm and moist. This is the reason why toenails are about seven times more prone to fungal infection than fingernails.

According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, more than 35 million people in the country get fungal nail infections. The fungus lives and grows underneath your nail easily because it provides a dark, damp and safe place for ideal growth of a fungus. That is why it is difficult to treat infections of nails easily.

Although fungal nail infections are painful to you, they are not so dangerous as other human diseases like cancer, heart attack, blood pressure, diabetes and other such diseases as there is no danger of your life due to nail fungus infection. Also many US insurance companies do not cover the cost of nail fungus cures because it is not a necessary treatment

Your nails always tell a lot about your own internal health. Healthy nails are often a sign of good health and bad nails are often a sign of illness of your body. You look ugly and lose your self confidence due to your infected and deformed nails. You feel ashamed to show your deformed nails to others.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Medications For Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Medication therapy in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), is usually directed toward symptom control.

Abdominal pain:
If abdominal pain is very severe, anti cholinergic group of medications (mebeverine hydrochloride) may be helpful. It relieves pain by moderating the smooth muscle contraction of intestine.
Bloating:
Peppermint oil (Colpermin, Mintec) when taken before meal is found to be helpful to minimise bloating and abdominal pain. Also it is better to cut out items like carbonated drinks, vegetables like cauliflower, broccoli and cabbage.

Diarrhea:
Over- the-counter preparation like loperamide (imodium) is found to be useful to control diarrhoea.

Constipation:
Taking bulk forming fibre supplements such as isphaghula, psyllium (metamucil) or methylcellulose (Citrucel) may help to control constipation.
If constipation is still troublesome, laxatives like senna and lactulose would be helpful.

Other Medications:

Antidepressants:

If the symptoms are not controlled by above simple medications, doctors could try antidepressants to control the symptoms. There are two kinds of anti depressants that are found to be helpful in these cases.

Tricyclic antidepressants: (imipramine, amitryptaline)

Apart from reliving depression, these medications inhibit the activity of neurons that control the intestine. These are particularly useful to control diarrhoea and abdominal pain in irritable bowel syndrome. The main side effects of these medications are dryness of mouth, drowsiness and constipation.

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor: (SSRI)

If tricyclic antidepressants are not helpful then the doctor might try this class of antidepressant (fluoxetine, paroxetine). These medications act by controlling a selective chemical in the nerve cells (neurons). They are found to be useful in controlling the symptoms of IBS, particularly the abdominal pain and constipation.
If antidepressants are not working, doctor may advise counselling, particularly in patients in whom stress provokes the symptoms of IBS. In some patients hypnotherapy may be helpful.

Lubiprostone: (Amitiza)

This medication works by increasing the fluid secretion in the small intestine. This is particularly useful in those patients who have IBS with constipation. It is found to be useful in women, but its effectiveness in males is not yet convincing.

Alosetron: (loronex)

This medication can be prescribed only by doctors enrolled in a special programme as it is not licensed. This medication relaxes the colon and slows the movement of large bowel. It is found to be useful only in women who suffer from IBS with intractable diarrhea.
Prognosis:
People suffer from irritable bowel syndrome has excellent prognosis. One study confirmed that 85% of patients were rendered virtually symptom-free in the short term. 68% were still virtually symptom-free 5 years later.
