<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em>Vitamin D regulates the activity of the insulin-making beta cells of the pancreas indirectly, by enabling the parathyroid glands to make calcitonin, a calcium-sequestration hormone</em>. Calcitonin ensures that calcium flows into the tissues where it is needed. This hormone is essential for bone health, of course, but it is also needed for the release of insulin from the pancreas. When calcium flows into the beta cells, insulin flows out. The calcium helps &#8216;break out&#8217; insulin from its protein-found storage form, pro-insulin.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">It is never a good idea to take a megadose, for instance 100,000 IU a day, of this essential vitamin, even though the vitamin is extremely cheap. <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Calcium has important regulatory functions in every cell in the body, and acute overdose of D can cause a flow of calcium into the kidneys resulting in kidney failure</span>.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">If you have had a blood test that shows that you have low D levels, under about 40 ng/ml, then you benefit from taking up to about 5,000 IU of supplemental D every day. When you get your D levels back to at least normal, then you only need about 2,000 IU of D a day, but that&#8217;s very difficult to get from food, especially the best food sources of the vitamin which are cod liver oil, cold-water fish, butter (not margarine), and cream. <em>There is also D in milk, but only about 100 IU per glass, and it&#8217;s absolutely not healthful to drink 20 glasses of milk per day!</em></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Even when you get your D levels up to normal, it is a good idea to continue supplementation. Pills are fine. You don&#8217;t need expensive vitamin sprays. Or you can simply get sun.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Fair skin absorbs more sun than dark skin. Fair-skinned women can make about 10,000 IU of vitamin D after about 20 minutes of sun exposure. Dark-skinned women may need about 30 or even 40 minutes in the sun to make the same amount of the vitamin. <em><strong>It is essential to note though that skin not be covered by sun block&#8230; but it&#8217;s sunburn, not sun exposure, that&#8217;s the risk factor for skin cancer</strong></em>. If you cannot get sun every day, however, be sure to take supplements.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Babies who are small for their age at birth are called small for gestational age. An infant can be both premature and small for gestational age if, for instance, he or she is born at seven months but is the size of a normal infant born at six months.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">According to the March of Dimes (an American health charity whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature births, and infant mortality), <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em>low birth weight is a risk factor for developing Type 2 diabetes</em></span>. A review published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in December of 2008, found that in 30 populations studied, most showed a significant association between low birth weight and Type 2 diabetes.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">A new studied published in the medical journal Diabetes Care in September 2010, looked at the question of whether prematurity could be associated with the development of Type 2 diabetes. Researchers from the Department of Chronic Disease Prevention, National Institute for Health and Welfare in Helsinki, Finland actually studied 12,813 men and women born between 1934 and 1944. <em>A normal pregnancy lasts 40 weeks</em>. Those born before 35 weeks had a 68 per cent higher risk for developing Type 2 diabetes than did those volunteers born at 35 weeks or more. Slow fetal growth was not associated with Type 2 diabetes.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><em>What causes premature birth?</em></strong> In most cases the cause is not known, but there are known risk factors. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, United States lists several conditions that increase the odds of a premature birth.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em><strong>Preventable risk factors include:</strong></em></p>
<ul style="text-align: justify;">
<li> high blood pressure</li>
<li>diabetes</li>
<li>blood diseases</li>
<li>infections</li>
<li>cigarette smoking and alcohol or illicit drug use during pregnancy</li>
</ul>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong><em>Getting regular prenatal care can help to reduce the risk of prematurity</em></strong>. Blood pressure should be measured on a regular basis and hypertension, or high blood pressure, can be treated medically. <em>Controlling diabetes or your blood sugar levels, is never more important than during pregnancy, and <span style="text-decoration: underline;">it is important for non-diabetics to be tested for gestational diabetes around the twenty-fourth and twenty-eighth week of pregnancy</span></em>.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Gestational diabetes is not the same as Type 2 diabetes, even though it usually behaves the same way. It is often a warning that unless lifestyle and dietary habits change between pregnancies or after childbirth, Type 2 diabetes may be &#8216;in the cards&#8217; in the long run.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Complete blood counts can also be made with prenatal care&#8230; when problems such as infections are found and treated quickly, premature birth is often prevented. It has also been revealed that certain bacteria may be present in the urine, even though there is no evidence of infection. This bacteria can make premature labor more likely&#8230; because of this it is usually recommended all women have their urine tested for bacteria early in their pregnancy.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">There are some experts who would tell you that type 2 diabetes can be diluted away if you just drink enough water. There is a very limited extent to which this is true, and it is certainly not as simple as drinking a lot of water.</p>
<p>Diabetes, Type 1, Type 2, or even Gestational, is a disease defined by having too much sugar in the bloodstream. More specifically, the blood is too concentrated in sugar; the blood sugar levels measured in milligrams per deciliter or millimoles are too high. It would seem to make sense that diluting the bloodstream would lower these concentrations of bloodstream sugar and make Type 2 diabetes go away, but there&#8217;s just one catch.</p>
<p>The kidneys make sure that other components of the blood, notably sodium and the pH, are regulated within a very narrow range. The kidneys will work harder to eliminate fluid when blood sugar levels are high, but they won&#8217;t eliminate sugar at the expense of getting rid of too much sodium or a drastically changing pH.</p>
<p>It is definitely true that diabetics who eat more salty foods and drink more water will have slightly lower blood sugar levels, usually on the order of 10 mg/dL or 0.56 mmol/L. To do this, the kidneys retain fluid, which raises blood pressure and weight.  It would just be easier not to eat that little bit of carbohydrate that accounts for that 10 mg/dL (0.56 mmol/L)?</p>
<p>When blood sugar levels get extremely high, 550 mg/dL or 30 mmol/L or so, dehydration becomes a serious issue. However, when this happens, water gets &#8217;stuck&#8217; in places that the kidneys don&#8217;t regulate, and it&#8217;s never enough just to drink water.  Drinking water won&#8217;t by itself resolve the potentially deadly condition known as a hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state. <em>Drinking more water helps your kidneys rapidly flush waste materials out of your system, which is a natural and healthy benefit to people with diabetes</em></p>
<p><strong>Drink water for your general health, but is not effective to drink water to regulate your blood sugar levels. And if you do become dehydrated, seek medical attention early. <span style="text-decoration: underline;">If you find</span>:</strong></p>

your skin seems loose</li>
</ul>

<li>your urine is dark</li>
</ul>

<p style="text-align: justify"><strong>CLASSIFICATION</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify"><em>Peripheral neuropathy can be classified into more than 100 forms and produces different set of symptoms and have different prognosis</em>. Motor, sensory and autonomic nerves damage can occur. If the motor nerves are affected then imbalance occurs in the coordination of walking, holding things and other voluntary muscle movements. <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Damage in sensory nerves results in the loss of sensations like touching or pain whereas autonomic nerves affect the involuntary nerves controlling vital organs.</span></p>

When only one nerve is affected then it is called as mononeuropathy. It can be caused by compression to the nerve, carpel tunnel syndrome or some infection and nerve inflammation causing tingling feet.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify"><strong>POLYNEUROPATHY</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify"><em>Polyneuropathy affects nerve cells anywhere in the body irrespective of the nerve path</em>. It can cause changes in axon, neurons cell bodies and myelin sheath surrounding axons. Distal axonopathy is the condition affecting only the axons with intact neurons. In sensory neuronopathy and motor neuron disease sensory and motor neurons are affected respectively. Polyneuropathy attacks organs on either side. <em><span style="text-decoration: underline;">It produces symptoms such as numb feet, burning, erectile dysfunction and imbalance in bladder function. This neuropathy treatment involves three steps</span></em>.
