If you’re reading this you’re probably suffering from gout, or at the very least have suffered from gout in the past. So I don’t have to tell you just how excruciating the pain can be. You already know how important it is to find a way of getting rid of the pain as fast as possible.

But the key to that is to truly understand what causes your gout in the first place…

When you are suffering a gout attack the extreme pain and inflammation are caused by needle-like crystals that have formed in your joint(s). These are crystals of urate that can form when you have high levels of uric acid in your bloodstream.

And you can end up with high uric acid if your kidneys can’t remove the excess uric acid that your body normally produces, or, your kidneys are fine, but your body is producing more uric acid than they can handle. In both these scenarios, the outcome is the same; excess uric acid in your body.

You will normally be prescribed drugs to reduce inflammation and relieve the pain. Unfortunately for many sufferers these drugs can have serious side effects, so that gout sufferers are increasingly turning to natural remedies for gout that they can use safely.

Here are 3 top tips for getting rid of gout pain and the crystals that cause them:-

Drink At Least 3 Litres of Water Per DayEven you doctor, whilst they are prescribing drugs for gout pain, will tell you to drink plenty of water. And no wonder, because drinking lots of water keeps you better hydrated, which helps to fight against crystal formation. Water also helps your kidneys to process and flush uric acid from your body.

Eat 30 to 40 Cherries Every 4 Hours During a Gout AttackResearch has shown that eating plenty of cherries can reduce the symptoms of a gout attack, including the pain and inflammation. They have natural anti-inflammatory properties, and, they can also help to reduce the uric acid levels in your blood.

Use the Baking Soda Home Remedy for GoutBaking soda has the ability to dissolve uric acid crystals, and, to help your kidneys excrete uric acid more easily. Mix 1/2 teaspoon baking soda in a large glass of water. Drink a glass before bed, one in the morning, and one every 2 to 4 hours during the day. Repeat until symptoms have gone. Note: Take no more than 4 teaspoons each day. Change to a salt-free diet while taking it. But don’t take if you have hypertension.

These are my top 3 tips for getting rid of gout pain and crystals during an attack.

But you need also to prevent recurring attacks in the future, because these can cause kidney problems as well as permanently damaged joints. This needs a different approach as you need now to consider things like your lifestyle, diet, weight, etc.

Gout is a very painful form of arthritis that mainly affects men but it actually affects women in the exact same way as men. It usually attacks the big toes of its victims but it can also spread to other joints around the body such as the elbow, the knees, the wrists, the ankles and the fingers just to name a few. There are a number of different causes of gout but the main on would have to be a poor diet that is packed full of high purine foods.

Foods such as red meat and seafood are the main culprits when it comes to getting gout. In olden days gout was considered the disease of kings as only the very rich would have a diet that would be so rich in these rare and expensive foods. In this article we are going to document 4 different ways that you can get rid of gout and keep it away.

Causes of Gout – Vitamin C Cure for Gout
In a 2009 study carried out in the University of California it was discovered that taking in excess of 1,500mg of vitamin C daily actually lowered the risk of getting gout by up to 40%. They then came to the conclusion that such high doses of vitamin C actually reduced the levels of uric acid in the body an therefore helped to prevent and cure gout.

Causes of Gout – Black Cherry Juice
Black cherry juice is now considered to be in the top 5 of the healthiest drinks available anywhere in the world due to its unique antioxidant content. The high level of antioxidants in the black cherry juice have been proven to reduce uric acid levels in the body even further. Drinking 1 single glass of black cherry juice daily can lower your uric acid levels a lot.

Causes of Gout – The Baking Soda Cure
Half a teaspoon of baking soda powder in a glass of water before going to sleep and first thing when you get up in the morning. Then 1 more time during the day an hour either side of lunch and then
again at night. Maximum is 3 teaspoons a day. This is one of the main cures for gout and can be effective after only 1-2 hours of firstly taking the baking soda.

Causes of Gout – Avoid High Purine Foods
Below is a list of foods you must avoid if you want to stay clear of gout:

Red meat

Seafood

Gravy

Kidneys

Mushrooms

Alcohol

Arthritis pain can radiate to tendons and muscles, but it is actually caused by wear and tear on cartilage between bones. This erosion of cartilage mainly occurs in joints such as the fingers, knees, hips and even the between spinal vertebrae. Arthritis can be painful and cause inflammation, numbness, tingling and even a weakness in joints. The best way to cure arthritis is through rest, immobilization, ice, heat, massage and exercise.

After the onset of arthritis symptoms, you should rest your arthritic joint for a few days. This will prevent further damage to the cartilage. It will also help control some of the inflammation and pain. During this time, you can further reduce inflammation and pain by using ice during the first few days. Ice causes vasoconstriction, a narrowing of blood vessels, which lessons swelling and pain by limiting the flow of blood and lymph fluid to the affected joint. Once the initial inflammation has been reduced, a heating pad can increase the flow of blood, which carries oxygen and nutrients that are essential for healing.

You should also take an anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen or naproxen, which can help control pain as well. These medications are Cox-2 inhibitors. They minimize pain and inflammation by limiting the effects of certain enzymes on prostaglandins or body chemicals, which is the body’s natural response to irritation or injury. Massage can also help cure arthritis muscle and joint pain by relaxing the nerves and promoting the flow of blood and nutrients to the soft tissues surrounding the joint. Stretching and resistance exercises can also help cure arthritis pain. Stretching will help increase flexibility in tight muscles around the joint. Resistance exercises such as weightlifting can build strength and stability in the muscles and tendons, which can relieve pressure on the joint.

If you are looking for a natural aid for your pain, Glucosamine and chondroitin are two supplements that can help rebuild existing cartilage in the joint and increase synovial fluids. Taken daily over time you will find a reduction in your arthritis pain.

The most effective method of obtaining effective treatment for osteoarthritis pain is to work with your physician.Once your condition has been diagnosed, he or she will suggest appropriate options to ensure that the treatment program deals with your individual needs and also provides proper relief from a medical standpoint. It’s a simple truth that multiple factors will determine which treatment is best for you, including your history of cardiac disease, hypertension, peptic ulcers, and renal disease.

Using pain killers and undergoing physiotherapy are the most common forms of treatment for osteoarthritis pain. Exercise and diet control can also help. A doctor’s opinion should be given before you undergo physiotherapy in order to maximize the chances for a cure. Consult a physiotherapist to learn about certain devices and appliances to manage your problem so that you can treat yourself at home as well as at work. Using a cane or crutches while walking or using rails in your bathroom can also help.

Weight control is another way to help control the pain. The pressure on the knees and hips of an obese person is often too much for the joints to handle, and it is known that the risk of developing this disease can be increased by obesity. Actually, women who are overweight have a greater chance of developing arthritis of the hip, so decreasing weight is an efficient treatment method.

Certain kinds of physical activity should be undertaken, which can be recommended by your physician. Possible exercises to do are swimming, walking, and aerobics, which will assist in decreasing the progress of this disease.

Using natural remedies is something you can do as well, and is actually a good treatment for osteoarthritis pain that offers a lot of relief from the swelling and pain. The application of a hot water bottle may be helpful, and electric heating pads and certain ointments can also provide a lot of relief. There are also certain age-old traditional approaches like a mud bath and wearing copper bracelets that are still used to treat osteoarthritis. Herbal remedies have also been known to help reduce arthritis pain.

As previously stated, many arthritis conditions are the result of obesity, and following a special osteoarthritis diet is an effective treatment for osteoarthritis pain. It is common knowledge that to keep your body in shape, you must adopt a healthy diet. Furthermore, it aids your body in fighting off infections.
Arthritis is a serious health condition that affects the joints, bones, and ligaments. There is more than one form of the disease, with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis being two of the most widespread. No matter which kind you have, it can be very painful.

Tai Chi has many amazing health benefits and can be used to help alleviate the symptoms of such health conditions as Osteoporosis, Diabetes, High Blood Pressure and more. There have even been reports of success with things like Cancer and Multiple Sclerosis although western science is just beginning to back up these reports with hard evidence.

Tai chi’s effects on arthritis are much better documented, and the art is beginning to become accepted as an effective treatment for many arthritis patients. When practiced for health it is done vary slowly and there is no impact too the joints like there is in many other activities like running or walking. This allows arthritis patients to exercise their joints through a wide range of motion without causing more damage or pain to the effected area.
Arthritis treatment
The movements will provide some benefits for arthritis patients but they are not enough to get the benefits that Tai Chi is known for with out a deeper understanding beyond the choreography. It is important for anyone who is considering this art as an alternative treatment for their arthritis to put in some extra time and research into finding someone who is a truly qualified teacher in the internal arts and Chi Kung. Unfortunately most of the YMCA and fitness center Tai Chi teacher’s in the US know very little beyond the basic choreography (even those with arthritis certifications) and will not be able to provide effective results for arthritis sufferers.

If you do not begin to see some results within a month of practice I highly recommend you find another teacher. Tai Chi has many amazing health benefits but in order to obtain any of them you need a much deeper understanding of the art than just knowing a few moves.

Osteoarthritis and Knee Replacement
Do you suffer knee pain? Do you notice abnormal knee swelling after walking or light physical activity? Do you have osteoarthritis and are avoiding the doctor because you don’t want knee surgery? Surgical knee replacement is a highly successful treatment for arthritis. Many patients regain up to 90% of mobility and quality of life after surgery. You may suffer from cartilage tears (meniscus tears). There are two menisci in your knee, made up of tough cartilage conforming to your bones. If these tear or wear down, the bones rub against each other and cause severe pain. If cartilage tears are caused through age and not traumatic injury, the symptoms can appear arthritic. Whether you have a meniscus tear or osteoarthritis, you may need knee replacement surgery.

Prior to any operation for knee pain or cartilage tears, you will need to discuss a range of issues with your doctor or surgeon. He/she will make an assessment of your knee including x-rays or other imaging techniques. Drugs such as aspirin that you are taking to deal with the pain and knee swelling may affect the body’s ability to clot blood – be sure to let your doctor know. Your doctor may refer you to a surgeon for knee arthroscopy – where a small camera is surgically inserted into the knee so your orthopedic surgeon can diagnose the best procedure.

Knee replacement surgery has made great strides in 50 years. Patients used to be happy with 100 degrees of knee flexibility. Now, many patients find they get up to 155 degrees of flexibility with a greater sense of knee rotation and complete relief of cartilage tears, knee pain and knee swelling. Aggressive physiotherapy is necessary after knee arthroscopy and replacement surgery to gain this much mobility. Activities such as cycling and swimming promote the strength building in the hamstrings and quadriceps.

Recovery from knee arthroscopy and replacement surgery is quicker now because the operation is less invasive. Only a small 9cm incision in needed and no incisions into the quadriceps are required. Knee replacement surgery is not as unbearable as you might think – in fact the relief of knee pain and knee swelling greatly improves the quality of life. There are things you should be aware of and steps you will need to take when the surgery is over to get back your mobility, but the result will be a better quality of life.

While there have been great advances in medical technology, a successful outcome is determined by the patient’s attitude and willingness to do the necessary therapy. Based on their experience, many doctors have somewhat low expectations for recovery and may not be very encouraging. It is up to the patient to find and follow an exercise program that has already shown proven results. Equally important is finding a trainer or mentor who has a positive attitude toward recovery from knee surgery and who can teach anyone the same mindset. Believing it can be done and working with someone who has already achieved the desired results is the key to returning to normal activities and remaining free from pain.

Almost any level of stress on the knee joint will affect the function of the kneecap (also known as the patella). Some tendons are more vulnerable than others to inflammation. The tendon that attaches to the kneecap often becomes inflamed as a result of repeated jumping in sports and related activities causing patella pain.

You may feel patella pain even while resting your knee. There may also be mild swelling in the affected area as well as stiffness and limitation of movement. Aerobic exercises will help you maintain a healthy weight taking pressure off your knee joints. The quadriceps is an important group of muscles that stretch along the front of your thigh and are connected to the kneecap through the patellar tendon.

When the kneecap slips slightly out of position you will probably feel pain or swelling and have difficulty in straightening your knee due to patella pain. This is a sharp sensation of pain which some describe as ’stabbing pain’.
Image results for kneecap
The tendons frequently become inflamed as a result of being put under repeated or excessive strain and you will experience pain around the kneecap particularly while exercising. When there is stress on the joint between the kneecap and thigh bone the cartilage between the bones softens. This is another cause of patella pain and stiffness. Sometimes this is accompanied by a clicking sensation when you bend or straighten your knee. Very often the pain resolves with rest.

If you experience patella pain while performing physical actions as a part of your work, an occupational therapist will work closely with you to evaluate your personal needs. The length of treatment varies but the course will begin with a thorough assessment of your movements at work. The therapist will try to find out the particular sets of movements that could cause pain and devise an alternate sequence of motions so that future issues could be avoided.

Rest and anti inflammatory drugs are generally recommended by medical practitioners to reduce patella pain. Physiotherapists also may recommend exercises to build up the strength of the quadriceps muscles so that recurrences of this kind of pain can be avoided. This should improve the balance and functioning of your kneecap.

Surgery may be recommended by the medical practitioner if other medical interventions fail to provide long term relief. The surgery will focus on repairing the tissues and providing support to the muscle groups so that the patient is free from patella pain.

Before you can come to any decision about which arthritis treatment you should use, you have to fully understand the disease of arthritis itself, how it works and what is involved with it. Only by making yourself more informed in this regards first will you be able to have any success with any arthritis treatment.

Arthritis is one of the most common diseases which affects many millions of people worldwide. It is a damaging, delibitating condition which affects the bones and joints in the body. There are three main types of arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and osteoarthritis. The type of treatment available depends on the type of arthritis you have. They are all different.

Before any treatment for arthritis can be prescribed there has to be an accurate diagnosis as to the specific form of the disease that is causing the problem. It is very important that an appointment with a physician is made as soon as the first signs of arthritis are noticed. The physician will then be able to discover which form of the disease is causing the problem and to prescribe the appropriate medication.

If left untreated, arthritis can become an extremely painful disease. The joints can become incredibly swollen and painful, making them difficult to use. It can even be potentially dangerous as you could be liable to have falls and to drop things.

When you have found out from your physician, which type of arthritis you have you are able to look at the different treatment methods an choose which is the best one for you to try. The gentlest method is often the first one most people try. This involves applying soothing gels or creams which either cool or heat the skin and thus stop you concentrating on the pain.

Often this will not be enough and stronger remedies or medications will have to be prescribed by your doctor. Many different medications or drugs can be tried to treat or lessen the effects of the disease. Steroids, disease modifying drugs, anti-tumour necrosis factor and strong painkillers will be prescribed either singularly or as a combination treatment.

Painkillers are often the first choice for doctors as they are available in many strengths, the mildest of which can be purchased without a prescription. If you do need the stronger type however, you will need to have them made up by a pharmacist.
Fda panel recommens smaller doses of painkillers
New medications and drugs for arthritis are constantly being invented and improved so it is important to make regular visits to your doctor to inform him of your condition and if the medication is working. If it does not seem to be working your doctor may know of a different remedy or medication that you can try.

Signs of Rheumatoid Arthritis

Signs of rheumatoid arthritis may vary from patient to patient. Common manifestations of this degenerative disease are joint pain and stiffness which are felt first in the small joints of the fingers, wrist, hands and feet.
News results for rheumatoid arthritis:
Arthritis delayed for women who give birth – “Rheumatoid factor – an autoantibody sometimes found in the immune systems of people with rheumatoid arthritis – was also present in 37.1 percent of the nulliparous women compared with 41.1 percent of the parous women”

It is in the period of inactivity and while waking in the morning that joint pain and stiffness are more severe. The common joints affected by rheumatoid arthritis includes cervical spine, shoulders, elbows, hips and knees. The joint involvement usually is symmetrical, which means that if signs of rheumatoid arthritis develop on one side of the body, it may also occur on the other side of the body in a similar location. As the disease progresses, it may cause deformity and joint instability due to the damage to cartilage, tendons, ligaments and bones.

Loss of joint function may result to damage and can lead to difficulty in performing daily tasks. The following are also signs for rheumatoid arthritis:

* Anemia
* Depression
* Fatigue
* Flu-like signs
* Loss of appetite leading to weight loss
* Muscle pains
* Weakness

Usually signs of arthritis depend on the degree of the tissues inflammation and the extent of the involved joint. Also, if the body tissues are inflamed, it means that the disease is active and when the inflammation subsides, the disease is inactive.

Because arthritis is a systemic disease, its inflammation can affect the organs and the areas of the body other than the joints. If the disease is active, signs are then felt like fatigue, loss of energy, lack of appetite, low-grade fever, muscle and joint aches, and stiffness. Another sign that you can have is the decreased number of red blood cells and even white blood cells.

Signs of rheumatoid arthritis such as any of the above mentioned symptoms should not be taken lightly and must be addressed with your health care provider as soon as possible. Early and aggressive treatment immediately following any signs of rheumatoid arthritis will lead to the best overall management of this challenging condition.
